Sweet. Looking forward to your review. From what I've read, we seem to have a fairly similar taste in amps.

I really WANTED to like the Mark IV more, but I just didn't... I like alot of the recordings I've heard online of the Mark series amps, but I just can't make them work for me in person.
That Mark IV they had has seem alot of use and was marked at $999. I know for sure they would've let it go for $850 or so for me, which I think is a great price, even for a well used Mark IV. But I just couldn't get into it too much.

Hmmm... I really don't mean this wrong at all, because I believe the Mark series amps are great. They're just not for me.
To me, the Mark III I used to own and this Mark IV that I've tried a few times both can sound "muffled" very easily. I usually had them either sounding muffled or too bright. I could never dial it in just like I like it. They also have a weird midrange thing that pretty much can't be dialed out unless the middle slider on the graphic EQ is ALL the way down. Then it's dialed out too much. lol...
To me, the Rectoverb has a much more aggressive voice. It's not smooth or midrangey like the Mark IV. It also has ALOT more punch and lows. Since it's not as smooth as the Mark IV, it can come across as "buzzy." But if you dial the presence and treble knobs in just right, that buzz turns into "cut" and sounds like it would work very well with a band.
I don't claim to be an expert on the Mark amps or anything, but that's my experience so far with them. Like I said, they do sound good. It's just not my type of tone. I'm at the point now where I don't really like the Sykes tone on the 1987 Whitensake album much anymore and the Mark III and Mark IV both pretty much sounded like that to me.
I should also point out that I ONLY used the highest gain (red?) channel on the Mark IV. I never even messed with the other channels.

I went back today and returned the Peavey Windsor (great sounding amp for people on a budget) and sat down with a used Mark IV head and this Rect-O-Verb head.
I liked this Rect-O-Verb head more, so I brought it home. It sounds great! I've been wanting one for a few years and finally took the plunge.
I'll run it through it's paces tomorrow and this upcoming week, but I'm pretty excited about it and thought I'd pass it along.
