I've been looking at their lineup for years, but I'm cheap when it comes to speakers and usually just gut what I need out of cheaper cabs.

I have a Jet City 412 cab I just picked up. The cab itself seems to be pretty well built, but the stock speakers are REAL bad. I want to swap in something new and exciting so maybe it's finally time to try some of the WGS stuff.

Right now the the Reaper and Retro 30 have my eye and seem like they'd be a nice compliment to each other, but just curious is anyone else has used anything from their lineup with good results?

The only one I've had experience with was the ET65 in a modded Blues Jr. I really liked it.

I have had a few different versions of WGS speakers over the years and still have two ET65's in a 4X12 mixed with V30's. Using broad general strokes with this comment so take that into consideration. With the ET65's being the exception, I find the WGS to be slightly smoother versions of Celestion's.

They all seemed to have a slightly rolled off high end which can be great depending on what you are going for. The ET65's keep more of that bite that I like without being harsh. A 1960B with greenbacks is still my number one cab but the 1960A with the ET65's and V30's is #2. Friedman SS cab is #3. I feel that the Friedman cab is a touch darker than the other two.

The Veteran 30 is really close to the Vintage 30, but a less pronounced mid bump. I also tried their Green Beret and although it wasn't the sound I was looking for, it seemed well built. I just look at them as another option among Celestion and Eminence, except that some of their speakers seem intended as lower cost alternatives to the former two.

I had their version of the T75s, whatever that model is called X with Chinese V30 and tbh it was one of the best tones I have had.

They were loaded in a Peavey MS412 that I got for free and sounded better than an Ubercab to my ears in a direct A/B comparison.

Only experience I have had with WGS and it was a good one.

I have their V30's and T75's (whatever they are called) in a VHT FB 4x12, love em. My new REVV 2x12 came with WGS speakers as well ET90 and Vet 30.and that cab sounds great.

All good info, fellas!

I noticed both the Jet City and Soldano amps take to the low end of K100s better than V30s. They seem to have a little more sag on the V30 but the amps sound nice and tight through the K100 in a similar enclosure.

I'm thinking a Retro 30 Bottom / ET65 top combo for the Jet City cab might be a nice compliment to the Soldano Voicing.

Sound great to me. I have ET65's in a 2x12 OS, two 1x12's, and a ET90 in a 1 x12 OS.

I had an Invader in my DSL40C and a quad of them in a Mojotone 4x12 (for sale in my signature). They used to be a steal for the money, but had a significant price hike about a year or two ago. But they're still an excellent speaker.

They sound really nice; as previously stated the ET65 sounds very close to the real deal G12 65. But....when you put the screws to them and crank it up they kinda fold at high volume where a Celestion gets better and better. That's my only gripe. Great prices and tone, for low to medium volumes.

I reloaded a Panama 4x10 with Veteran 10's and I like them. Definite improvement from the stock speakers and not overly expensive. They really aren't the steal they used to be but the quality is very good and they are a viable brand out there for other flavors than the usual C and E speakers.

I totally agree with this. I had ET65’s and Invader 50’s paired with V30’s in two Mesa Traditional cabs. They sound great, but at really high volume when the amp is pummeling them, they’d lose some definition, and get a little blurry, whereas Celestions just get meaner. The WGS’s are thicker, and smoother, where Celestions are tighter and grittier. With an amp as thick and powerful as an SLO, I’d definitely roll with Celestions, but WGS are also great in the right application.

Very good point to bring up. For a reference in my previous post I was using a VHT 100CL. The amp may favor something in particular. And from my brief SLO experience it was very picky when it came to speakers/cabs.

My buddy used to play in a real heavy band, tuned in D with his SLO. He’d play through an old Marshall loaded with T75’s that was at the spot, and his tone was absolutely sick. That amp and cab combo was the tits.

I have a pair of Veteran 30’s in boxes downstairs. They sound decent, not V30’s at all, to my ears. They sound more like “un-scooped” T75’s to me than Vintage 30’s. At the end of the day, they’re too polite and smooth for me. Not much character.

I tried a bunch of the WGS speakers: Reapers, Retros, Veterans, Green Beret, ET65

My least fav is the ET65, was to fat and dark for me, not tight and not clear either.

If you want tight bass and clarity the Retro/Reaper will def do that. I had that mix in a Revv cab which sounded ok but I also thought it was a bit thin and sterile sounding compared to celestion speakers.

The Veterans and the Green Berets lacked the cut of celestions but were better than the ET65s to my ears. Obviously its just my opinion , a lot of people love the WGS stuff. There are a couple of newer eminence speakers such as the DV-77 and the Mesa FM-75s. I have those in an X pattern in my Splawn cab now. They do the tight and clear type of sound. They also sound better overall IMO.

That's a good point. Vintage 30s are my go-to speaker precisely because of their character. Without the mid-hump, they're not really V30s. They Veteran 30s may be great speakers otherwise, but they don't have the flavor I was looking for.

I have a ET65 that I really like, fits nicely in the southern rock\blues rock\classic rock styles. Not sure how it would play with the super high gain stuff tho.

Oh look at me with 58 amps and I'm cheap when it comes to speakers...blah blah ;)

For real, get your hands on some DV-77's and I promise you will dig those. Sorry I cant help with the WGS speakers though, no experience there.
I think he actually has 58 amps.
