I just found one thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33158&hilit=warehouse

EDIT - it looks like Capulin Overdrive and Troublehead both had problems.

Oh yeah, I see that now. I dunno... When 98 people love them and haven't had any problems and 2 have had problems, I'm gonna have to assume those 2 got defective items.

Now if I get mine today and something goes wrong, when my opinion will change. lol

The only really negative things I have read have been on the Green Berets.

I also remember reading that most people liked the Vet 30's over the BL-80's....

Meh, if you want the very best "V30" get a Hellatone 60L IMO

Care to expand on that a bit?

From the Avatar website.

There is also the Hellatone 60L which is a slightly different version of the stock Vintage 30. The 60L is designed to have a slightly lower bass response and has a slightly different center dust cap than a regular Vintage 30 / Hellatone 60. The 60L is only available in 16 ohm

I've never heard these so i can't comment on how good they are.

I compared my Vintage 30 loaded Mesa with my friends Veteran 30 loaded 1960A.
I found the Veterans to be a bit smoother sounding, while the V30's seem to have stronger projection capabilities. Possibly a result of having crisper, more pronounced mids.
I liked both of them, but for some reason I felt more confident pushing the V30's really hard (???)

The 60L's are a great speaker if you want a V30 type tone. I own a pair, they are a little smoother sounding with a little more low bass, although its really a small difference. They do in fact have a different dust cap that diffuses the highs a bit more. Best V30 out these IMO, dont listen to Gene. V30's groped him when he was a child. :m9:

I have 4 of these in a Marshall 412. They do have a slightly more pronounced low end--overall, just a little warmer sounding. They are "broken in" before you get them so they are supposed to sound better than a "New" speaker. I guess they do sound a littlle smoother than a standard V30 but that may be the slightly different eq.
Either way, I like them.

Well, my amp room is finicky. It's long, with a low ceiling, with concrete under the carpet, with a lot of 90% angles.

The EQ curve of the V30 can be overbearing in the room. (It sounds awful)

That said, in some rooms, any speaker can sound killer, example: The little back room of the Egnater amp lounge.

Meh, I still hate the V30 with a passion.

The other guys have covered it a few posts above. I'll also add that I've had them in the same cab as regular V30s and have noted the 60L breaks up a bit less. Though they're labeled the same wattage as V30s, to my ear it comes across as having perhaps 10w more headroom than a V30, if that makes sense. Therefore its tighter at very loud volumes.

As far as tone, less fuzzy/more foccussed than a V30. The upper mids are not as strident in the 60L, since they are shifted down a bit in the frequency spectrum. This makes it less honky. Lastly, while it is smoother overall than a V30, there is a tiny bit of high end presence/articulation in the 60L not present in the V30. I love'em !

BTW they ARE celestions, a tweaked V30 formula Marshall requested for one of their Mode 4 cabs. Similar but NOT the same as Mesa V30s, which Celestion slightly changes for them as well.

^^^ Good point about Mesa and Marshall V30's being different. The V30's in my Mesa are rated at 70 watts and the Marshall ones are as well. Any other differences?
What are the Verteran's wattage ? 60 ?

I got the WGS ET65 speakers yesterday and installed them in my Bogner OS 2x12" cab. It's too early to have a strong opinion about the tone, but I'm digging them. Very "balanced" tone with no annoying freq's. I think I'm going to really like them.

But anyway, they sure don't seem to be cheap knockoffs to me? I'm no speaker expert, but they feel like they're built well and they definitely sound good??? +1 for WGS so far.

Cool! Let us know how it goes when you have em broken in, im interested in trying out that same pair eventually since the celestion ones cost a buttload

I had some Celestion 65's in a Marshall combo I had (my first tube amp), but didn't realize what great speakers they were at the time. When you get the time could you compare the 65's in the Bogner to the V30's that were in there. Thanks Thump.

Cool. Glad you're liking them, Chris. I'm getting kind of excited to try the Veteran 30s I'm waiting on.

Weren't there a few guys here who had reliability issues with WGS? As in speakers blowing, falling apart, not working, etc...?

I remember a post on TGP where a builder was buying them in bulk for his cabs, and the cones were separating or something like that.

I have 2 WGS british leads in my Recto 2x12, they aren't as buzzy as the V30's I took out. Smooth and flat response, which I kind of like with certain amps...

they were bad ass speakers at $21, they were great speakers at $45, they are decent speakers at $65.

Let's see... I'd say the V30s had a midrange "honk" and maybe sounded thicker because of that. These ET65s don't have the big honky mids at all (maybe even slightly scooped or just flat?), nice highs that are there but not ice picky, and solid lows. Not THICK, but very "balanced."

I can hear a slight "buzz" from new speakers, but it's not THAT bad. I can't wait to hear these when they're broken in a bit more.

Thanks! Sounds like a real even (flat) speaker.

Can't wait for UPS to deliver next week...ET65 and Vet30 on the way.....WGS were great about shipping over the holiday, unfortunately UPS really f'ing suck and extended what would take FedEx 5 days (7 incl. the holiday) out to 10 days. :(
