I've owned both the Mk1 and Mk2. They sounded pretty close on ch. 2 and ch 3. Enough so that it wouldn't matter.
What about ch 1?

Well it's a seymour JB bridge and jazz neck usually hitting it. I never figured the Jazz was *that* hot. Maybe it's just me playing too dynamically, hitting it harder on notes I want to accent and they're all like it. Maybe there's something awry with mine. I'll find out sooner or later as to whether it's me or not when I go Diezel shopping regardless.

Oh god... This is THE question about the Herbert.
I thought THE question about the Herbert is when it's going to be as good as the VH4 ??

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Kidding of course :D

Mojo

I thought ya said the Hagen would make either of those two shit their pants!

I'm getting confused...

Good thing the D-Moll is coming out to further muddy the waters..

No kidding!

Almost every time there is a high gain metal monster of an amp for sale, somebody has to ask the question... "Can it do cleans" :bash:

The next time I see a a Fender Twin or Roland JC120 up for sale I'm going to ask "can it do metal?"

That's exactly why I love my Herbie though. There's a number of very nice high gain amp heads out there. The reason I was sold on I though is the fact it can do everything very well. I want a fat sound that can punish the audience into submission, but equally my music isn't just metal, I want clean beautiful jazz chords and really low gain blues sounds. If all you want is the heaviest sound then a Herbie is hard to beat, but it also seems a bit of a waste when you consider what else it's capable of!

Yeah, agreed. I wouldn't have bought it if all it was capable of was brute force distortion. Having an awesome, overpowering high-gain metal tone is great, but I guess maybe it just pairs to our respective tastes Me: playing the same style of music gets boring quick. If I had to play metal all day I'd lose interest in playing fast. Likewise, if the only thing I could get outta my amp was extreme, in-you-face metal then I'd start looking for a little more versatility elsewhere.

The Herbert might not have the BEST clean channel in the entire world (that's subjective though, I love Ch 1), but if not, it is high up there for me.

Suck 'em in with the beautiful warm delicate melodies then bash their brains out! More how a psychopath would work. Need the caring and considerate friendly face to lure them in, or you'll never get all those bodies to bury under your basement!

That's exactly why I love it. Nothing does EVERYTHING like a Diezel!

Of course I understand. It´s not easy to design
a perfect clean channel into a high gain amp.

A perfect clean channel would need a different
power amp.

I hope the compromise will work out for you
metal heads.

Best,
Peter

I personally think the clean channel on the Herbert is superb. I was mostly directing my post towards silly question when it comes to amps like the Uberschall, 2 channel rectos, etc. Guess I got off topic just a bit...

Really though, it's a major selling point for me. especially considering the cost of some seriously high end gear with high end prices only to have a so-so clean channel. If it can rip your face off with searing lead tones, sweet. If it threatens to level the foundation of your house/venue with the rhythm section- Hell yes!

But if it can do all that and nail the clean vibe..

Did you guys ever really look at the transformers on the MK I ? They are massively expensive Langer Custom PT and Langer VH4 OT. I could not imagine that they cost Peter lest than $ 200-300 Euros each. OUCH !!!! Maybe more ? There are probably les than 1600 Herbert's in the world and I don't think Peter would get a very good discount buying them in such small quantities. A deal like Marshall has with Dagnall would be great for Peter.

So,

1. Re-Designed Transformers
2. Vandalism Input Mod on Ch.1 (for those slamming the front end with 30K pickups)
3. German Bundestag Electrical Regulations on no external user adjustments
4. Says, "MKII" on front.
5. Still Says Herbert on front

It's a herbert....
So Papa, does this about sum up the difference between the two models?? Mk1 and Mk2 or is there more to it??

May as well tell all your children the facts so at least they can rest easy at night...

i hope the capital s'es were a typo. otherwise NOT funny at all.

Yikes..
I just don't have the Germanic keyboard, Papa knows me well enough to know there's no bullshit in the use of those two SS's, but hey, good "referential determination". Crazy good actually.

I have the dual language input on my Mac's. 99% of us know it's a sharp S or Eszet and a friendly salutaion akin to " With Friendly Regards".

Here is one you could copy and past to keep the ignorant ball busters of you.

ß

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Papa

"ß" ist used for "ss" as Uncle Mo used to do.

In some cases you can replace "ß" bei "ss".

In some cases not and "ß" is the law.

Jesus, please don´t ask me about my
mother language. It´s better to ask my
Japanese wife. She was the winner of
her German examination.

 no hard feelings... just thought because they were capital and some people think it is funny (which is not).

by the way: we are quite crazy about our "ß"... we even have chocolate for it to be advertised.
