What are the MJT bodies like?

There's a dude local'ish selling a hotrod Strat for a good price. It has a relic'ed MJT body with an Original Floyd/big brass block, Duncan JB and a Duncan single coil, Warmoth neck and a hard case. I've played a few Warmoth necks and dig them, just unfamiliar with the MJT stuff.

Check the weight—Warmoth does a good job as a rule but I’ve had some dead (and heavy) examples

MJT bodies are pretty nice.. they usually source them from Wildwood Manufacturing and then finish them. The finishes are on the brittle side so you may relic them further just by assembling the parts, just FYI.

Oh ok so they mostly just do the finish work. I was looking at a few bodies this morning and they mentioned Wildwood and I think another shop and I was like waaaaaiiiiit a second...that makes sense.

Yeah they might do some necks occasionally because they bought USACG, but the bodies are all sourced from Wildwood and maybe another place.

Yep, Wildwood did my two MJT bodies. No concerns there, I had them assembled and playing from ground up in about 45 minutes each because all the screw holes were perfect and I only had to drill the claw screws.

Their relic work has kinda gone the way of the Fender Custom Shop on their heavy relics, I think they’re just realizing people are dishing out stupid money for……’less artistic’ relic’ing and they’re not doing the final finishing touches as much as they were in previous years, but for the regular relics or the NOS/closet queen finishes they’re pretty damn good and hard to beat at $350-$400.

What I thought was interesting was when I ordered them I told them what I was doing with them, the first being the Gilmour Strat and the 2nd being the ‘54 Strat replica, they actually sent me bodies with period correct contours as the Gilmour was a Fullterton ‘57 AVRI that had slightly different contours than the regular AVRI’s that came after ‘85, but was still different than the ‘54 contours. I don’t have a side shot on this ipad, but I didn’t request it and they still came that way. Not sure if that was a happy accident or they just put more effort in behind the scenes than they talk about, but I was stoked.
