Anything Carvin made. Those amps were all hot garbage, even if some of them occasionally sounded decent. They were all poorly made and unreliable. I would rather play Line6 stuff.
I remember buying their V3 head when it first came out, the full size one. What a POS 😂 went back within a few short miserable days 😂

Bad Cat Lynx combo. I was so excited to get that thing. Hasn’t worked a day since I got it in late February. Sent it in for warranty repairs and it came back with new problems. Absolute nightmare that just won’t end
Sounds like my experience with HK Grandmeister 40. Thing was in the shop constantly and the company themselves did some really dirty shit to me throughout the process. Never again.

I got mine from SW. I talked to Chuck about it and told him the story. He took the amp back although it was past the return period and gave me a full credit back.

I then spent that credit on what ended up being my desert island amp - my Rivera Clubster Royale Recording Top.

Went through hell to get to my heavenly amp.

Definitely a blessing in disguise.

That is so sad to hear. I always wanted their stuff when I was a teen. Had a buddy who had the V3 head when I was younger and thought it looked so cool. This was years before I would get a tube amp, I was digital/SS all the way due to 'bang for my buck'and having every feature possible.

He ended up selling the V3 and getting a Fractal I think and he used that for years.

I always hated the way his digital rig felt and sounded, but he loved it.

I think part of his love for the digital was due to how poor the V3 was.

I remember that was when I kept hearing about different pre amp pedals and drives and EQs to stack, etc, and I never did anything like that but he was constantly going through them.

He sold the Fractal, I cant recall what he uses now but man he struggled with that Carvin head for years and years.

He was convinced it was awesome but could never get it to sound as such and eventually was happier when he moved it along.

Yamaha THR series. My work gave me one for my bench to use for testing with repairs and I was so glad it finally crapped out after 3 months.
This is one I was excited about. When i played it, let's just say it was a massive let down

I absolutely loathe the grandmeister and tubemeister

I'm a big fan of the Triamp series, and I loved the duotone, puretone, and a bunch of other H&K stuff

So I thought the meister amps were gonna be the ultimate home practice amp

....holy shit

I literally own a 100$ joyo bantamp that I think has better sounds AND is more reliable for that purpose

From top of my head:
Petrucci wah
Friedman BeOD deluxe
All the REVV distortion pedals
Fulltone OCD

The tones are shockingly bad. Swapping speakers helped do what they could but damn that amp sucked.

Cornford MK50 , sounded so dark. Too dark. I could never dial in my sound without needing to boost it and add more EQ. Some how I have now had two of these and both times, sent them packing

I have the green one.. I've spit on it, called it gutter trash, pretty sure I puked on it multiple times... Still sounds "good" for what it is... Surprised by this one.

Bareknuckle Holy Divers. Just bland. Ew.

Didn't own, but I've borrowed R9s, R0s and R7s before and while I've never been disappointed with R9s and R0s, the R7 I borrowed was less than stellar.

I had the Dimarzio AT-1 like 3 separate times and swapped them out all three times. Bland and no cut.

Basically every time the internet or a winder hypes a pickup as "solving the Duncan JB's problems" I end up just straight up preferring the JB lol

EDIT: How did I forget about this one? The DSL100. I fucking hated that amp. I hate it, and I now have a distrust for every single person who says that it sounds good

Ha, 20+ years ago I originally bought a new DSL 50 and liked it, traded it for a new dsl 100 thinking it would be even better, went to take it back for the 50, left with a different amp.

I think the THR 30 is good for practice without burning tubes. I like that I can BT a backing track into the headphones and adjust BT volume

i remember the Savage and Fireball having some hype at hcaf, but the joke about the powerball was always it was a great sounding SS head lol
Definitely.
I've been playing Engl heads sinds '02 or so (starting with the Savage 60) and throughout the years, tried many. My gripe with the Powerball mkI is the same. Sterile, clinical, no cut and girth, no character. I played in a Twisted Sister tribute for a short while and the other (younger) guy had the PB. I had to step in to improve his settings in order to get his 100W heard over my 18W EL84 Ironball connected to a 1960BX 4*12 cab... 🫣

The mkII is way better though, but still not an amp I'd buy myself.
And it's unfortunate that I see a lot of folks dismissing Engl, often based on a negative experience with a PB, when Engl has so much more to offer that does not sound THAT processed, or SS pedal like.

I saw other people mention Carvin so I guess I'll chime in because the Legacy "hype" got me too

I listened to a bunch of clips Vai was putting out at the time and was liking them so I bought a brand new Carvin Legacy halfstack without ever having played one

Honestly I immediately disliked the distortion channel (which was the whole reason I bought the amp) and am retarded for not just returning it

It was clearly designed strictly for solo lead guitar playing, and even then it only really shined in that regard when it was boosted to hell and slathered in effects

Clean channel was indeed great and the amp seemed to be well built and over the course of several years I never had an issue with it

I ended up buying an ENGL preamp and running that in to the fx return of the Legacy lmao, that was my main rig for years and actually kicked ass.

I will say the Legacy V30 4x12 was great; no issues there
