I always thought Tooth and Nail had a certain hardness to it that I liked. Its harsh. If you listen to the first record and then this one, it's like night and day. First record is very warm sounding. Certainly if George actually used Randalls to record this record, the harshness can be attributed somewhat to that alone. The drums have a weird/sound/mix to them too, so I/m not sure the Randalls are 100% at fault. I do know when I saw them open for DIO on the Tooth and Nail tour it sounded great and George's tone was nothing like you hear on the record. They were really good that night.
Honestly, when I saw Breaking the Chains I thought they were awesome, but I had no idea who they were, then a buddy of mine played Turn on the Action over and over again and that car crash at the end was the cheesy-est thing I'd ever heard...I hated them, then Alone Again went into heavy rotation and I loved them after that, except for some of the cheese lol
