There is a local guy with a 77 black Custom with Duncans in it. It has a hard case and has some buckle rash/scratches/swirls on the back but the rest looks pretty clean and no chips/dings that I can see.

Not really sure, but it's never made sense to me the people who try to sell Greco's, Orville's, etc. for the same or similar price as a real Gibson.

I played a couple Greco Les Pauls that were flat out amazing. I believe they were early 80s models.

I have played some Japanese Les Pauls that I liked more than comparable Gibsons.

I've had a Greco '84 Sykes model, mint collection and that guitar was impressive. These MIJ LPs aren't made with the same Mahogany as Gibsons, so they don't have the same midrange but the fit, finish and playability is great and easily on par with Gibson Standards/Classics. My old one had a 60s neck, nice and slim and fast. From what I gather the early 80s to 90 are the Grecos to get...the 70s were a bit of a crapshoot. They do sound good just don't expect the same tone as a real Gibby.
I've been looking at trying another 80s Greco...I also had an Edwards Sykes from 99 and it had more of a 59 profile, it was also nice but I'd take the Greco over it..splitting hairs a bit though.

Forgot to add, I can see them for 500 on up shipped from Japan on ebay or Reverb. Both the Greco and Edwards were between 5-600 shipped and arrived in less than 7 business days from Japan.

Hes asking 750 or a trade. From when i have looked to try and get another black burny custom like my old one, i always saw prices in the 700 to 800 range.

$750 seems like a fair price. A little more than a decade ago Greco's, Burny's and Tokai's were all over ebay for $500-600. They're harder to find now and people are asking unreasonable prices like $1000-1200.

Ok, just wanted to make sure I wasn't looking at ebay inflated asking prices and they are realistic figures.

I would read up on the best yrs, models to buy for some opinions on Grecos. My impression is that the 82 Super Reals are the best, followed by the mint collection from 83 to 90, then it tapers off..not to say late 70s are bad but that's how the MIJ LP guys seem to rate them. Right now I can order a 79 black Greco standard for 437 shipped from Japan. Most have some bumps/bruises though, and your trade item might be mint with lots of upgrades.
