What do we think of the Hot Mod v.2?

I can't remember if we discussed this when it was coming back out, but Legendary Tones recreated their take on the classic HotMod from Soldano. I had an original, it was compressed and unusable for me at higher settings, this one sounds more promising. Just as I am playing around with gain mods for my 2204 build, I came across this, I think it sounds pretty bitchin though I would probably still use a boost just to tighten/shape the bottom a tad;

I had one back in the day but a boss sd1 was more usable

I’d rather do Egnater’s Megadrive mod, as outlined in the June ‘95 issue of Guitar Player magazine. I had an original Hot Mod here a few months ago, I returned it after a couple of days, didn’t love it.

Got one coming later this week. I’ll report back.

Here is an audio clip of the one Cameron made for me. I stuck a VFE Standout out front for a little ( dry little) push.

Someone sent me the hot mod v2 to test out a few months ago.

Well that thing sounds ridiculous and insanely good..too bad the rest of us mortals won't be able to get our hands on one! How did the hot mod v2 stack up to your expectations?

Found this older thread in Dec.2019 discussing this very thing...so all things considered, when is the Cameron coming to market?

I have no idea. Send EXPcustom a message. He might know.

I have a friend that is using the hotmod v2 with a JCM800 and he sounds killer. But his playing is really nice and he has pretty killer riffs so I'm sure that is helping. I know he was on Ola's guess that tone or amp or whatever and Ola was really digging his tone but I dont think he guessed it.

For anyone wondering about the Cameron take on this, I contacted EXPcustom and the product was supposed to be out already but COVID restrictions and supply/manufacture issues this have delayed it. So hold on to your hats a little longer if you are looking for a hotmod style solution. I know psychodave's clips were pretty convincing to my ear. I am going to wait.. in the meantime, my tinkering for more gain always leaves me back to more or less stock with a good OD or double pushed with a clean boost. I find it a cleaner saturation and tighter overall. The only gain "mod" I consistently like is a .68 or 1 uf cap over the 820 ohm resistor on v2. Put that on a switch because even then, sometimes i want less mid push. Anyway, let's hope the Cameron comes out this year.

When it comes out it will be the hottest item on the market. Makes a bone stock 4 input Marshall sound like a low gain Jose style amp. Add in a pedal and it high gain. Unplug it and your amp is back to stock. With a JCM800 you now have a high gain Jose. Add in a pedal to fine tune and you can have any tone you want. Sure others have made similar products, but we all know Mark has an ear for tone and feel. Nothing I’ve tried sounds like Cameron’s unit. I was a believer when I got mine a long time ago. When TGP hears about this they will have trouble keeping them in stock. :thumbsup:

Make sure they give us first dibs over here, TGP is full of complainers and nobody wants to know the 5k they spent on an amp wasn't necessary :D
