What do you guys think of these pancake patch cables?

Ah, I DO remember that about soldering my goerge L's. Mine melted too...

I'm sticking with all Canare GS6 from now on. That stuff can REALLY take the heat.
 
There are patch cables that are just straight plugs, VERY low profile, you only see like an inch of 'em....can't find 'em right now, but I'm sure someone can find 'em here...
 
Yes, those are a bitch to work with for sure. I don't bother with them because the space you save isn't worth the headache IMO. If you want to keep trying since bought them, some things that might help you are:

-at the point you want to solder the ground: rough the metal up a little with sand paper or file probe or something

-"tinning" the spot you ground to and the wire you are soldering before you solder them together

Those 2 things help alot(you may already be doing them), But may not solve the melting issue you are having with the George L's.
 
Yeah, screw the George Ls.

I'm sticking with the Planet Waves stuff. I've checked reviews on them and they seem to be really good. Like I said, Mogami is probably better, but I don't think I'll be able to tell any difference on a sub 5 foot patch run.

Szar: Ernie Ball sells some of those, but using Switchcraft 228s is still lower profile.

vchizzle: Thanks for the tips. I'm am "tinning" already. But I haven't tried roughing it up.

I'm doing that next.
