What guage strings do you run on your Les Paul?

Supposedly, the height of your stopbar is something you can play with to effect string tension though I'm skeptical it's perceptible.

If it had an effect on string tension, then it would also change the pitch of the string. What it does do, is change the "perceived tension" of the string when you bend it." And it is 100% designed for this. The length and break-angle of the string after the bridge affects how easy or hard it is to bend a note. Try it.

It also effect resonance if you change it.

Coming back to a point I mentioned in my earlier post in this thread, IMO (and personal experience) the most likely cause of wrist /elbow pain is neck profile and/or strap height. Heavier gauge strings than I'm used to slow me down and hurt my fingertips, but I will get wrist cramp etc with a neck profile that is too thin or too fat for me, or if the guitar is too low on the strap (or some combination of the two). Apart from sore fingertips, "too heavy" string gauge has never given me the physical symptoms the OP is suffering from. Just sayin'...

are you stretching your hands, wrists and arms for ten minutes or so before practicing?

if not, you might want to try it. i've found that the majority of my physical problems over the past 5 years has to do with not stretching out and staying limber. before trying changing anything, try stretching out.
