This forum has clearly lost its way.

I would say this forum lost its way a few years ago. I would have said this forum could stand toe to toe with any other forum in a cutting heads guitar playing competition. Now, almost everyone I would have nominated to represent Rig Talk is gone. If any other forum comes knocking and wants to throw down against Rig Talk, you'll find me hiding in the cellar.

An online buddy that used to be on here sent me an email the other day and asked why I still hung around on "Big Talk". It's only a 1 letter change but is pretty funny.

This seems to come up frequently. Sorry the latest roster of people don't live up to the legendary members of the good old days. It is a public forum though, plenty of people around worthy of the ignore list...can't do much about it other than that. There are still some great people around that I look forward to their input.

You self appointed "Mount Olympus" guys could always start your own forum with the "best of the best"...I'm sure you guys could afford it, then you wouldn't have to wallow through the daily deluge of posts from the minions.

I didn't reply to this to be a jerk about it, and I'm not singling you out as others have said this too, but what do you hope to achieve by mentioning this ?

What rubbed me the wrong way about a particular post from the last thread was the implication that only a select few would be able to appreciate or experience the quality of the pickup rings because their pockets arent as deep as others'. The tone of said post was very snobby in my opinion. I don't care how much someone pays for a guitar or the parts that go into it. If they can afford it and it's worth it to them, then that's great. But to look down on others who can't afford a 5 figure guitar and somehow think that you're better in any way because you can afford a $10,000 guitar is extremely arrogant and reeks of douchness.

In fairness, I think the response you're speaking of was a somewhat tongue-in-cheek jab at the person that was calling the OP a cork sniffer (in a seemingly tongue-in-cheek way as well) for buying the pickup rings at a price they deemed ridiculous and the other's joining in to make fun of it...

I could be wrong though... been wrong before...

Some people could afford the "magic" pickup rings. Those "select" people are better than those who can't afford the "magic" pickup rings.

I believe he's talking about Steve's joking remark about only a select few people ever getting to smell those pickup rings in response to the the guy who made the cork sniffer comment, which I also thought was just joking around...

I think he was joking, just like I think the guy making the cork sniffer comments was just making a joke. I think you're just taking the comment too literally - he was just joking in response to being called a cork sniffer (I thought jokingly).

Does that make sense?

If he was joking, then I'm sorry I missed it. It's hard sometimes for humor to come across on forum posts. I really don't have a problem with someone spending $300 dollars on pickup rings if that's what they want. Personally, I think it's silly. On the other hand, if I could afford a $10,000 '59 replica, I'd be all over it.

Yea, I knew what he was trying to say. I was just being wise-ass about the sentence being structured improperly and with not very well grammar.

I found all of the comments on that thread to be humorous in nature and took no offense to any comment. Although, I must say that, it's very easy for me to take that position being that I am better than most people. :D :D :D
