Would you please 'splain this sentence? I keep reading it over and over but can't seem to make sense of it??

Some people could afford the "magic" pickup rings. Those "select" people are better than those who can't afford the "magic" pickup rings.
I think he was joking, just like I think the guy making the cork sniffer comments was just making a joke. I think you're just taking the comment too literally - he was just joking in response to being called a cork sniffer (I thought jokingly).

Does that make sense?

Steve

Yea, I knew what he was trying to say. I was just being wise-ass about the sentence being structured improperly and with not very well grammar.

I found all of the comments on that thread to be humorous in nature and took no offense to any comment. Although, I must say that, it's very easy for me to take that position being that I am better than most people. :D :D :D
You elitist prick!

If he was joking, then I'm sorry I missed it. It's hard sometimes for humor to come across on forum posts. I really don't have a problem with someone spending $300 dollars on pickup rings if that's what they want. Personally, I think it's silly. On the other hand, if I could afford a $10,000 '59 replica, I'd be all over it.

The funny thing is that I never said what I paid for these.......or, if I paid anything at all.

My guitars don't even have pickup rings :(

How are you going to be better than others then?

I'll have to install some, I guess. I'll need two sets per guitar and cut them to fit 7 string pickups. Or would that be even more shameful than not even having any?

Don't worry about it. You're already better than a lot of us here because you have 7 strings vs. 6!

Dammit!!! I spent 5 figures on a guitar to be better than others and all I had to do was just get a 7 string guitar?!?!   Man.....now I feel like a complete Kroger douche!!!

This seems to come up frequently. Sorry the latest roster of people don't live up to the legendary members of the good old days. It is a public forum though, plenty of people around worthy of the ignore list...can't do much about it other than that. There are still some great people around that I look forward to their input.

You self appointed "Mount Olympus" guys could always start your own forum with the "best of the best"...I'm sure you guys could afford it, then you wouldn't have to wallow through the daily deluge of posts from the minions.

I didn't reply to this to be a jerk about it, and I'm not singling you out as others have said this too, but what do you hope to achieve by mentioning this ?

The Mt Olympus guys did start their own forum, it was called Rig Talk. It was owned and run by two guys who could both play very well and who could both record themselves very well. They grew up as musicians, in bands. They knew band situations, they knew recording situations, they knew playing, they knew tone. Guys like that followed them here and somehow they even let me in too.

Steve K was saying that based on recent events, he thinks this forum has lost its way. I responded saying that based on less recent events that I think this forum has lost its way. I'm still here because I have friends here and I hold out hope. I'm always afraid I'm going to come off as sounding like if you don't play like Yngwie, I'm not interested in your opinion. That couldn't be further from the truth. What I'm trying to say is if you don't play like Yngwie, maybe leave an Yngwie type attitude at the door?

I must have missed the deleting of the original thread. I knew it would go tits up though, as the mention of money, high priced custom guitars, high priced authentic accessories, etc. reared its ugly head. Why pay up for an authentic replica and not have authentic plastic on it and why would that bother some of you? Instead of people skipping over a thread that they have absolutely no business replying to, they decide to go down that road and spew shit from the keyboard. A few people here have the means and the desire to own a few of these luxury items. What business is it of those that can't afford or choose not to afford a guitar of this magnitude, to label someone a cork sniffer or whatever else? Open that can of worms though, someone is going to come along and have something to say about it. I know school's out now and the kids are posting. It's a god damn shame the forum has been allowed to go unmoderated to the point of being the next HCAF and other shit rags where there is no respect for other members, or gear providers.

Like Curt said, some people have friends here and its a means to keep contact and have a bit of fun or post your gear, clips, opinions or stuff to sell. But, I won't sit here and allow anyone to talk shit about me or a friend.

Good afternoon Steve! All good here. I've been prodding the cattle a lttle here for fun. I always consider the source, so no harm done. Plus the some of the posts from the original thread made me realize it isn't just owning this guitar and rings that makes me better than most folk!!

It's hard to be humble these days ain't it brother!?!?!!!!!!

whoever pays 300 bucks for a set of pickup rings needs to get their head examined...same if you pay over 10k for a fake 59 Replica LP ;) Having said that I can understand it...ever see what originals go for? Its a savings and availability thing I suppose.
