I'd agree with that.

Gene, isn't Fish one of, supposingly,THE preamps you haven't owned? Gonna buy one?

Gene,
i voted murder/suicide...if you are about to lay your hands on the almighty fish you have been waiting for so long...and after all that time you think it sucks....is your castle of dreams gonna come crashing down into a state of deep dismal disrepair...or will you be able to rise above the tides of derision and be content with what you have? Or will you turn your focus to Langner ? I'm gonna be optimistic and say you will love the fish if you get it...i don't wanna hear of a murder/suicide in Indiana and see your face plastered on the news. But if you don't like the fish that may be your only option :D

They'll get compared to the original, internet discussions will arise that they're not the same components as the original Fish. Detailed pics will surface showing comparisons, the original Fish going rates will skyrocket as everyone will say they prefer the Fish V1 better.

That's my bet.  I'd be looking for an original right about now.

I think the M4 will smoke it.

well, the M4 smokes all of the preamps I still have, however, it can't do everything.

The Sound Clinic S3 sounds very different
The VHT GP-3 sounds very different
Even the IE-4 sounds different enough.

They're all great in their own ways.

The Fish is a bit of an enigma to me  . The majority of the posts I've read from people who either have one or played one paint the picture that it's an "ok" preamp. I've never read it sucked, but very few of these posters seemed as enamored with the Fish as one would expect considering the level of hype surrounding it. I know this happens to an extent with any hyped product, but it just seems very out of balance when I stop and think about what I've actually read. It will be interesting to see what the consensus will be once it gets into a few more hands .
