i have played a colossal cable and to me its too perfect. it literally adds frequencies to guitars (usually treble from what i recall) that you could not dial out - it made the guitars icey but in a very realistic accoustic sounding type of icey. IMHO the best i can explain is that its too good of a cable and i dont like what i heard when playing one. even my buddy who bought it (blues player) agreed after going back and forth with my mogami's and eventually he sold it.
That's very interesting and makes me want to try one out even more.

I like these armoured cables:

They're practically indestructable, they're affordable and they sound great!

try one. there is a difference - but that does not mean the difference is beneficial or musical

I've been doing well with Planet Waves cables, but I recently grabbed a Mogami instrument cable. I don't really hear a difference, but it physically it seems more durable. Has anybody used Colossal Cables? I've had their website bookmarked for awhile and would like to try them sometime. I want a cable that's thick and nearly indestructible, while sounding crystal clear.

I've been using Colossal cables for about a year now. It's made a huge difference in the fullness and clarity of my tone. I'm extremely satisfied with them.

Brian has a new model, called the "Sweet Fat", which is a bit warmer and less "direct" sounding. I've been using these for connections in front of the amp and using the Modern Classics for all FX Loop connections.

i love the stuff that is around the cables that keeps it from kinking. ill check out the sweet fat model thanks for the heads up. i like the cables, just not the drastic tone change - was as noticable as changing speakers.

I bought a custom made Mogami 25 ft gold series with Nutrix jacks off ebay a $60 dollar cable new for $40 bucks.

Canare GS 6 cable with Neutrik connectors or George L. I used to make my own, but found it easier and cheaper to just order from

http://www.cablesforless.com/p-1474-sup ... ables.aspx

so I stopped soldering my own. The George Ls are pretty good, but I find they tangle a lot and that annoys me for some reason. I have had Mark from Lava Cable make me some nice speaker cable, so I am tempted to try some of his guitar cables. I really hate Monster Cable. I have tried a few and they all broke. Yeah, I could exchange them everywhere, and did...but really none of my other one break and even the ones I make work...and I can barely solder.

i use analysis plus black oval, or a sommer cable, either the grindy cop beast or the stratos, it's quite a difference between these and the other cables i've had in the past, especially in the high frequencies, the stratos is pricey though,

the black oval is reasonable, i guess?

cool thread

Oh shit! I remember I saw the Deftones playing them back in the early 2000's and went to GC to get myself one the very next day! It's funny though, the cable still got crackly and stopped working after about 3 weeks for me. I guess I'm too harsh on cables lol. I don't know about yours, but mine picked up the noise from the metal shield dragging across the ground. Either way, everyone always told me how awesome the cable looked lol.

I generally like Mogami since I can't afford the boutique stuff. Canare is good, too.
THIS!

I have several Canare cables that I have gig'd for 15-20 years with no problems. Mogami is also great.

+1 for Colossal! I may be biased, because I've been friends with Brian for 15 years, we've played in numerous bands together (GREAT drummer!). He's also played rhythm guitar in my solo band. After working at Bogner for a while he really developed a great ear for tone, and we hear things very similarly.

When he was developing the Modern Classic we must have tested about 30 different cables, including different types that he was considering using. I can't remember them all, but I do remember Evidence Lyric, Canare, Monster, George L, Mogami, and Solid.

In the end, the only one that could hang was the Solid cable. (but I'm also friends with Nile). I really didn't want to believe that there could be so much difference, but there is.

He just recently sent me a SweetFats, and it just might be the best cable I've ever used!

i have an 18 foot dimarzio that i use. other than that i have some cheapo generics with switchcraft connectors.
and some shorter live wire cables for connecting effects and stuff. which also have a lifetime warranty.
they all sound fine and work fine.
i just have to laugh when people say "this or that cable makes such a HUUUGE difference in my tone!!/!?!" lol
like the copper one company uses is somehow different from the copper another company uses lol.
as long as a cable has good shielding, and good soldering on the connectors, it's going to be a decent cable that will probably sound about the same as any other cable.
