What makes a Badlander part of the Rectifier family?

I love my tremoverb/heartbreaker/xtc classic but they all have a lot of low end that needs dialing out IMO. Mesa probably voiced badlander with less after so many people said you need a boost/low cut with a recto.

I just wanted to say what's up to you man, you were an OG HCAF bro and were cool. Do you still have the strat?

It's different. People boost rectos to cut low-end before the preamp. Not sure what values a Recto has on the input stage, but there's not extreme low-end filtering going on at the beginning of the chain like with many more modern amps. But they've still got an ample amount of bass afterwards.

I own a recto, you’re not telling me anything new, lol. What does any of that have to do with the badlander?

I was just wondering how is it even related to a Recto. I got sidetracked, LOL.

I was hoping someone would come up with something like a technical argument like "yeah, the poweramp has the same no negative feedback thing" or "yeah, the tone stack has the same values" or whatever.

But yeah, no one seems to agree. To some people (like me), it sounds nothing like a Recto. To some, it does. But we're all discussing perception, nothing objective. Because someone could very well say a 5150III with the presence and the resonance up kinda sorta loosely sounds like a boosted Recto. But it really isn't one.

And also, please don't misinterpret what I'm trying to say as "Rectos are the only amps that sound good" either. Badlanders sound great too. I was just wondering whatever made them decide to put in the Recto family rather than making it its own thing like the Triple Crown, Royal Atlantic, or whatever. And the only explanation I can come up with is marketing. But maybe someone more knowledgeable might correct me.

Not saying the Badlander isn't good. It's fantastic. It's just not really a Recto, is it? Or is it? That's what I want someone who has more technical knowledge to tell me.

I mean I disagree, I think they are clearly related but is subjective of course and mesa is the one who gets to decide how they classify their amps.

How so?

Not trying to be a dick or anyting, I'm just curious as I myself didn't hear it. But maybe it's something I should pay more close attention to next time.

Lol, I mean yeah that’s why it’s subjective. They can be dialed pretty darn similar IMO, you feel otherwise and that’s ok too.

If it helps, here's a comparo in a song mix I did when I had the BL100. Cab is a 2006 OS straight w/ stock V30s. In hindsight I think I had the mic a little too close to the center ala fizz, but at least it's consistent.

Badlander in the mix 1:57
Triple Recto in the mix 3:50
Mark IIB+ in the mix 5:42
Badlander IR in the mix 7:34

Badlander guitar only 9:29
Triple Recto guitar only 11:22
Mark IIB+ guitar only 13:14
Badlander IR guitar only 15:06

Wow. Compared to the Recto it sounds like an AM radio, LOL.
