What pedals make up your core tone?

Your basic go-to rhythm and lead tones not just a list of all the junk you have on your board. Are you a straight in guy, just use a boots pedal into a cranked amp, or do you have a combo of a few spices that you add before you bring that tone to a boil?

Waynes Hunky Dore goes in front of the plexi and the Airis Nebula boost goes in front of the ENGL, and that's the core of the gain sound

But I've played a handful of amps that didn't need a boost for my style, and if you're playing genres with less gain you can 100% get away with plugging straight in pretty easily

I can and have. Actually did a radio show the other day with an AC4, lol. But a boost is a pretty handy tool so I been using one for the last five or so years. I am ordering one of Wayne's pultec EQ's so things might get interesting. I've never used an EQ of any sort other than the one's on my amp and my guitars tone controls. I guess I'm just searching for something a little different these days even though it might complicate things, lol.

It's either been an MXR Booster Mini or an EP Booster setting on the FX8 into the front of the amp. I usually have some kind of compressor always on in there too. I set those to subtle and use them for clean(ish) and rhythm tones.

My tube amps I usually go guitar direct in; or with an EQ in front (Source Audio EQ2 or Ibanez Pentatone EQ). Classic/hard rock, '80s hair / thrash tones mostly.

For prog/fusion, I use my HX-Effects in 4CM with Mesa JP-2C

I just get eye-twitchy when people are like "All boost pedals are stttooooopidd if you can't do it with just the amp then blah blah"

Or conversely the "Theres NO WAY to get a good gain tone without pedals blah blah"

People are fucking retarded and cannot fathom that there are different use-cases for different bands, gigs, styles of music, and types of players. It's just too much information to track, apparently.

Depending on the amp I’m using, one of these.

Mostly straight in. Btpa cables are honestly a part of my clear, punchy tone. I let the guitar, tubes, and amp do the work. Hatter's OD is absolutely wonderful though and is probably my favorite OD pedal ever. I use it on a clean channel and it rocks.

My amp has a built in boost on the lead channel, so kinda cheating there.

90% of the time I play with absolutely no pedals engaged whatsoever.

That other 10% is quite fun though :P

Larry modded VFE Standout with Techdeth's Love Doc7or mod.
Dude I use one thing always . Boss ns 2 . Maybe a boost like Koko boost v1 .
Hers something new for me . Live I been using red channel of stealth gated but with a chorus ! That’s weird for me . But it’s nice sounding but still brutal

We do a wide range of stuff. Rhythm: Some is just amp, guitar and volume knob. Funk stuff some Phase 90. 80’s stuff Boss DC2, Flanger and some delay. Modern stuff DC2 and a TS 9 I modded a long time ago.

For leads, either just amp, amp with TS9, amp with TS9 DC2 amd some delay.

But really my core sound is amp distortion and the DC2. That is an awesome sound.

I recently added this specific chorus to my death metal rhythm tone for a mild widening & thickening effect. Loving it so far...
