Everybody has one, so post it up. That one piece of music that really gets to you, moves you in ways no other can. And tell us what it is about that piece of music, if you can put it into words.

Oddly enough and probably to the shock of many here, mine doesn't really have any "stand out" guitar work on it, if any at all other than Gilmour's slide work. For me it has to be this live version of "Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd from the Delicate Sound of Thunder DVD. The music is well written, but there's just something about the power and emotion in the voices of those female singers that every time I watch it, it gives me chills, and I've watched it many times, still with the same effect. I also own the Pulse DVD that came after it which also has this track on it, but it's missing the magic compared to this version.

A close second is actually a tie for me between Alanis Morissete's "Perfect" and CandleBox's "Sometimes". Perfect is a song that deals with the pressures parents can put on their children to be better than they are/were, or to make the parents famous. This song always makes me think of those young girls who are pushed into the beauty pageants by their parents. The kids don't really understand what's going on around them.

CandleBox's Sometimes deals with relationships/marriages breaking up and two people going their separate ways. This song came out at the same time me and my first wife were going through our divorce. This song really hit home for me. Unfortunately I can't find anything but crappy live tracks on You Tube, but it's off of the "Happy Pills" CD. Great song with a lot of meaning behind it. Here's my MySpace player link, it's the first song on my list.

Candlebox "Sometimes"

So what's yours?

Not much rock music really moves me, not like Keith Jarrett or Dave Brubeck.
But the most moving piece of music I've ever heard (it actually makes my eyes water when I hear it) is Symphony No. 5 from Mahler...really powerful.

This! Loved this from the first time I ever heard it. Heavy! Do yourself a favor and listen even if you don't like classical.

boston - amanda

dimebag - floods

those are the only few that stick out to me atm - but there are many rap songs that this forum wouldnt really approve of that are moving in a lyrical manner that i can think of, as well as a few classical pieces of baroque style music played by a german organ player named hanns andre stamm.

Generally songs that have feeling in them and bring back a memories.

Here are a few:
Beatles - Let it Be
Motley Crue - Home Sweet Home
Rush - Subdivisions
Journey - Don't Stop Believin'

More recently Kings of Leon - 'Use Somebody' really hit me....

so many peices of music move me, in many different genre's, from classical to rock to ambient. Love this song from pearl Jam, and something I was just listening to today so I figured I would single this one out now. Love the slow build of emotion and dynamics in this song, its like an eargasm of emotion.

Coheed and Cambria's first two albums make the hair on my arm stand up EVERY time I listen to them.

The melodic waltzes of Dr. Zhivago, always get me sentimental.
Especially Lara's Theme(AKA, Somewhere My Love) a truly heart moving piece!

Seems to work well with chicks too, which is always helpful on those cold winter nights

Just a few. I like the moody stuff that sneaks up on you and makes your hair stand up. Good stuff.

Well, there's lots of guitar oriented music that gets me excited about music in general...feel good music. However, the song that moves me the most is not guitar oriented at all. As some of you know, I lost my younger brother in a terrible car wreck years back...seems like just yesterday at times. Now, when I hear this song...I cry.

Love To Love. From the opening keyboard riff to Phil's vocals and Schenker's searing outro... gets me every time.
