I have a 2012 QR half-stack with the Small Blocks and love it! It sounds way bigger and more rich as a slant cab, then that head does running into my V30-loaded straight front 4X12s.

I just picked-up a Friedman Smallbox that sounds great through the V30-loaded cabs though. This is probably the richest sounding amp tandem I've ever had. The LP loaded with Fralin Pure PAFs certainly doesn't hurt!

I've been speaker swapping lately as well in my splawn 4x12.

Currently traded away the smallblocks...have 2 governors in it at the moment...awaiting some more speakers. Have 2 manowars coming, 2 more governors coming, and a buddy just gave me a new V30 he has laying in his garage. New soldering iron is ready.

Glad this thread came up, but i'm not sure if I will decide all governors, or x pattern gov/manowar. But the smallblocks weren't for me.

Necro-bump alert. What did you end up going with? I have a Mesa cab with Governors and it sounds great with the QR, My Splawn cab I have Small blocks and it doesn't have the edge that the Governors have. I'm thinking of going all Governors or maybe something else in the Splawn cab.

Exactly this^

I didn't even try the man o wars, even though I've had x pattern with those before. Just went with all governors. Depends on the style of music you are going for, but governors sound good. I kinda wanna try a Mesa traditional slant too.

Splawn Quickrod also works good with g12t-75's.

The QR has an aggressive mid and relatively smaller low end to modern amps. And the 75 helps on those regards.

Out of all the speakers mentioned, I hope he went with the creamback 75'. Not a fan of Eminence speakers in general apart from the legends.

I posted a clip this morning of my Quick Rod using the Creamback loaded Splawn 2x12's.

The first part is straight amp, cab, guitar. Then I added a few OD's to boost ('93 RAT and Monsterpiece COD)

Here's the link:

Links are not working.

Do you have any issues with the sound being overly bright? For me gear 2 was the sweet spot which was pretty toppy/middy and I'm pretty sure of the 65 creambacks are pretty toppy/middy.

You must have a hell of a lot of cut! Or do you use the 3rd gear and use lots of gain? that darkened it up for me. Or do you have darker pickups/downtune? So many questions!
