all i did was type in weirdest video and voila

i couldnt watch all of either vid-i just can't believe this stuff is on youtube for any kid to stumble onto!

back to holdsworth

when he is on, he demonstrates what is possible for lead guitar players, and tonally he is a rack effects and gear genius.

He was drunk in that video you posted. Didn't he try to sell his own brand of beer years ago?

his reaching for the uncommon chord book talked a lot about his affinity for beer and making the perfect brew. and some acquaintances of his i know mentioned his unhealthy love of brewski but these clips were unlike any other time i've heard or seen AH play. it's one thing to be off or miss a few notes, but this was way more than that.

A guy I know bought a cask pull from Alan. I believe it's currently at Cismontane Brewing. I've sipped ales from that cask. Yum.

Oh man, Christmas came early for me this year:

I get to see Allan holdsworth at is worst play better than I ever could at my best...

Maybe it's time to sell off the gear and invest in kazoo's or recorders...

Allan Holdsworth is starting yet another genre of guitar music...

"Near Death Metal"

i've heard scofield sound drunker, but not be drunk at all, and really just playing exactly what he was intending to play, which happens to be some weird shit sometimes... but at least he pulls it off.

that video tho... sounded like he was messing up playing his own part in guitar hero...

Guys, there's nothing wrong with Holdsworth.
First of all, the inherent problem with being a jazz improvisor is that you will have your off days. every time you improvise, it's only as good as what you can conjure or think of at the moment. Now, one can always go on auto pilot and play all the licks in one's arsenal. Allan does do some of that, but he always seem to try to improvise every time he plays a solo.
He may be drunk on this vid, who knows. Allan is known to like his beer. But who cares, it just shows that he is not super human after all.

i disagree. holdsworth is superhuman. :D

but it was right around this period of time i saw him at NAMM last year, and he couldn't even play his iconic tune he wrote/recorded in '73 with tony williams, "fred", something he has been playing regularly since that time, without some serious faceplants.

i've never seen him off like this before. i've seen him frustrated with his playing or gear before, but it's still world class holdsworth.

He blew me away when I saw him. Any great musician has his off days...

IMO if he is drunk and performed like this, that is unacceptable for a pro. If he had a bad day, well he is a guitar god and can be afforded a little grace.
