ok, i've been looking at new tubes for my mark iv, i know i want a quartet of 6l6's but i don't know if i can use any power tube. Do i have to use mesa's tubes? or could i buy Winged C's or JJ's and use those with out any problems? and does it matter what brand of preamp tubes i use? sorry for the noob mark iv question

I have JJ 6l6 in mine. I've actually been wondering lately if i should to mesa tubes and if there would be any tonal difference between the 2 brands.

I have to say JJ's sounded the worst of all the tubes ive tried, SED Winged =C= 6L6 are the way to go.

sed's ftmfw in almost anything. they sound great in my mark iii

so i can put SED Winged =C= 6L6's in my mark iv and not have to worry about bias problems? cause i've been wanted a quartet of those for a while

it should be fine.

nice, how do they sound in your mark iii? was it a noticeable difference from the stock tubes?

when i got my mark iii it had rubys that were over 20 years old
the seds made a HUGE difference in tone. way punchier

is your's simulclass?

yeah it is. i got 2 el34s in there as well. sounds excellent.
a clip guitarzan posted comparing els and 6l6s showed that the difference is pretty negligible. i can only realy notice it on the rhy2, which i dont really like anyways.

Mesa are Fixed bias so no worry, SED's will make your highs sweeter, But give you huge punch clarity.

BTW Do you have SED's in your Splawn im getting mine tuesday and im thinking about ordering some SED EL34's since ive had such luck with there tubes making any amp come alive.

 had seds in the splawn, i sold it :(
had similar effects as seds always seem to

Another vote for SEDs. Maybe get some EL34s too... I have SED El34s in my mark V and they sound amazing

sweet! thanks for the help guys! BTW, where do you get your tubes from? the cheapest i've found is 100.00 bucks

my mark IV is my main amp, my favourite of all time and i tried the best for it.
when i came to the SED =C= 6l6 & el34 i found tone heaven. the markIV came to life and sounded richier more aggresive and clear.

try the sed c (6l6 in the inner sockets and el34 in the outer) and you'll be satisfied. those are my tubes of choice

sounds like a HUGE improvement!

Sorry to highjack the thread but, how much of a difference tonally would there be if i replaced all the JJ tubes in my IV with all new mesa tubes, preamp and 6L6 power?

Call Doug, at Dougstubes.com tell him what amp you have, and he'll hook you up with EXACTLY the right set-up.
