What was you first real amp? Did you like it?

Technically, my first tube amp was a JCM800 1x12 with a vintage 30 but I ended up taking it back within the week and getting a 68 pro reverb instead (still own it). I remember at the time hearing some extra clarity and sweetness in the fender that the marshall lacked. My second amp was a 2204 JMP head and I have pretty much stuck with marshalls since. In retrospect I can see why I didn't really dig the 1x12 V30 combo even though I love 2204s.

So what was your first real amp? Still own it? Dig it?
 
Carvin MTS half stack. Still own it, and still like it.
 
My first real amp was a late 80's Marshall JCM 800 halfstack that I bought used in 91'. I liked it. Didn't have enough gain for me though so I sold it in 93' to buy a 5150 halfstack. Still have that one.
 
Marshall 8100 and Carvin 4x12

Marshall was o.k. served it purpose at them time, the Carvin wasn't worth shit.
 
fender solid state 2x12

blew it up - so i traded it + cash for my 5150 II which is what i was saving for - still own that :)

hated that combo - but was noobish enough not to care.
 
Peavey Classic 30 and still have it... Just went through a major overhaul to boot. Installed a new Celestion Gold Alnico, new Gold Lion EL84's, and some beautiful high quality pre's. Thing sounds delicious. Outrageous tone and touch. I've been on some forums discussing the guts being re-done and I may go that route too...but right now, BLOWN AWAY with its tone.

Fender Super 112 with the red knobs. I really don't remember it very well to be honest, but i don't have it any more so I guess I can't have liked it all that much.
 
Peavey 5150 II, currently upgraded with Mercury Magnetics Trannys. It's currently being sold since I have a 5150 and 5150 III.
 
Old first run Marshall DSL :doh: Hate that amp made my les pauls sound like strats.
 
First real amp was a Line 6 Spyder II combo.

First Tube amp was a Carvin Legacy half stack. I was just plugging my PODX3Live straight into the front of the clean channel so i really dont even count as using it really. I then ditched the POD and started using all pedals but i was using a Dist. pedal boosted with an OCD into the clean channel so still i guess i never really used the amp for anything more than the power section.

Sold the Carvin to make a rack setup which ended up in fail so i sold it all off and got a JSX. Been using tube amps ever since and havent even touched a Dist. pedal.
 
first amp i considered to be a real amp was a marshal valvestate head and cab way way back in 95 :) it had a valve in it and said marshall ont the front :rock:

the first true all valver i bought was the marshall 6100 anniversary series head. think cos that's what joe satriani used at the time

:lol: :LOL: I ended up plugging that first head I got into the Fender combo's speakers for a few months while I saved for a cab.
 
First amp: 10-watt Peavey practice amp (can't remember the name). After 2 weeks it wan't loud/crunchy enough. The only thing I could afford was a used Peavey TNT 130 bass amp, so I stuck a Tube Screamer in front of the practice amp and used it as a pre into the TNT. It worked :no:

First "real" amp: Peavey Roadmaster head. If memory serves, it was 160 watts, had 40 tubes and weighed close to 1000 pounds. I loved it at the time, but I wonder what I would think of it today...
 
A Peavey Road Master 120watt head and Peavey 4X12. Great amp for it's time.
 
First amp was a Marshall JCM 800-era 5210.
It was a 50-watt ss amp that actually sounded quite nice, but it didn`t have enough power for a loud teenage rock band :D

My first "tube" amp was a Music Man RD112. Tube power section and SS preamp.
Sounded good enough on the clean channel, and worked nicely with pedals.
 
Hiwatt head with a Celestion 4x12...I had arrived.

For years before that I used a Peavey solid state Chorus 400 2x12 combo.

It was actually hard going from ss to tube, but as soon as I turned it up and felt the power...there was no going back.
 
my first few amps would be considered better to most than what im using now, i had a jcm600 and a classic 30
 
Started with a Fender Ultimate Chorus which did me well for a few years, then starting borrowing my Dad's JCM 800. Ran a DS-1 in front of it until one day I thought "how cool would the Ultimate Chorus sound if it was tube?" so I started running preamp out into the JCM 800 and that was my setup for a few years. I could dial in a wicked Steve Vai or Nuno Bettencourt sound with this setup, and it was nice having a channel switching setup of which the JCM 800 didn't have on it's own.

Then came the block letter 5150 half stack I bought used and it was all GAS from there!
