...that will be used with 50W heads and low to moderate volume.

I use a Scumback M75 65 watter in an Egnater 1x12 and it's great. For a 1x12 that little sucker kicks.

Is the Egnater open or closed back?

EVM12L speaker for sure. (the ones found in mesa 1x12 theile cabs).

Mesa MC90. I like them muh better than the EVM 12L which i found to be harsh sounding.

If you plan on pushing the heads (although you said you didn't) keep in mind that the wattage of the speaker MUST be greater than the wattage of the head.

So that excludes greenbacks and their clones for example.

For your amps, I would suggest a well broken in Eminence Private Jack.

Yeah...the Morris is a picky bitch when it comes to speakers.

Big no to the Scumbacks. The ones I tried (h75) will be way too smooth/dull with your Rockgrinder.

+2 to the MC90. A CL80 works well too. I have a CL80 in a closed back 112, its a nice versatile little cabinet.

I was probably going to stick with what I can get locally anyways: Celestion, Eminence or WGS.

What are the MC90/CL80 similar to in the Celestion world?

Celestion Classic Lead 80 (CL80). The MC90 is a Celestion made speaker, branded and tweaked for Mesa. Both speakers were based on the Celestion G12-80, the MC90 is supposed to be closer to the original G12-80.

i usually recommend older eminence 'bells' (reissued at one time as the 1228K) or old CTS squarebacks for 1x12's, but those don't quite have the power handling you'd want (they only rate @ ~30 watts).

i +1 the mesa blackshadow recommendation (i hear the classic 80 sounds like it, but i haven't personally tried it).

i like weber silver bells (ceraimic or alnico will work) as it sits the mix quite nice. i mix my silver bell with a blue dog, but i find the blue dog sounds good but may be a bit bright for a stand alone speaker. i feel the silver bell stands alone a bit better and the strong low end response helps it sound 'bigger'. i'd get a 60 watt rated weber for a bit more response and if you want speaker breakup. get the 100 watt if you want a flatter response across a large volume range.

the G12K-100 has a really flat response (for a guitar speaker) and handles the newer heavier stuff quite well (handles slack tunings as well).

edit: evidently the C90 and the classic 80 are indeed related.

Tks
As long as they aren't close to greenies....even thought the Marshall loves them, the Morris doesn't unless they are pushed to band level or beyond :(

Man, exact opposite from me. Love the EVM, pull every MC90 I had. Sitting on a shelf some where.

But any speaker is amp dependent. So the MC90s didn't work for me with the SLO.

That Explains why I like the CL80s. I have CL80s and MC90 like em both. I also like the EVM 12s.

i was really digging my cab with emi ms-12's, now that i'm ampless-not so much.
