What's a good bridge pickup to go with a paf pro?

I have a Super Distortion in the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck. It's a great combo but I put it in my Axis (direct mount) and the SS is too tall and the strings are too close. I dont want to route out the cavity, I'd rather just sell the SS and find another pup that would pair up nicely with the PAF Pro

I play rock/metal

Any suggestions??

Depending on your level of "Metal" the Tone Zone could work. I find it to be too hot for me, I prefer the PAF Joe/Mo' Joe combo and I'm going to try out the Air Zone as a Tone Zone replacement in my Air Norton/Tone Zone equipped guitars.

My other Axis has stock pups which are supposed to be close to a tone zone so I dont want to go there

Anyone familiar with the Norton?

I was going to suggest the DiMarzio Super Distortion as well. I'm sure you can make it work.

That said, I've grown to like the Tone Zone in our other guitarist's Charvel as well, but as you already have a pickup that's fairly similar to it, I'm at a loss actually.

I already had to route out just where the legs sit and its as low as it can go. I'd have to route the entire cavity and Im not sure I want to do that :aww:

The Super 3 is a great match tonally as it has a similar mid-push like the PAF Pro...I put one in a custom built Jem that I made for my son and it kills.

+1 for Super 3 or Norton. Both great pickups.
I wonder if the S3 is as tall as the SS? I know the Norton is the same size as say a Tone Zone...or the stock axis pups

I went with another paf pro in mine and it sounds decent - but how 'bout a Fred?

Tried the Fred and didnt care for it

Im thinking another paf pro would sound too vintage-y

I must be one of the only people around who really thinks the TZ blows chunks. I hate it.

Why not just swap baseplates?
