3) Mic Pre Plugins? When I searched the Neve I was presented with a $300 plugin. Anyone use this? Can this actually work? I would imagine it is certainly not the same as the real deal but is it close?
I am looking for anything I can do to get better recordings. I feel I am at a disadvantage from the get go because I just have shitty recording gear. I use a TC Electronic impact twin. I have no idea how good or bad it is but I assume it is crap.

The pre plugins on the UA unit i got are freakin amazing. Right now there's a free Neve pre and Fairchild compressor with it if you buy before Dec 31.
It also comes stock with the UA 610 pre that sounds so good on vocals. As for how they compare to the real thing i wouldn't know besides the good reviews.
I think you guys are both right. The potential is there for people to make truly amazing recordings today. But I still hear a lot of signal distortion in some new recordings. As simple as it is, bad/lazy engineers push volumes and then clip signal. I dunno why. Maybe they just assume it's all mp3 thru earbuds and nobody can hear the difference.Rezamatix":k8zqynfq said:Badronald":k8zqynfq said:Most albums I hear these days sound like cack.
Why?
With all the amazing gear they should sound awesome, right?
I don't know what the fuck you're listening to...
Today's music has some of the highest fidelity and they have been pushing the boundaries of sonica farther than ever before.
Go listen to something that was done really well.
Try the new Jeff Beck album, the production quality of that record is amazing.
Not the new Stryper album , but something with a real budget.
The new Joe Satriani record is sonically one of the MOST impressive recordings I have ever heard.

But he still needs to run into a decent pre to take advantage of it and when you shell out for their interface you get that. Essentially, to take advantage of those mic pre plugins, you want a decent quality neutral mic pre in the first place. Audient ID22. Reasonably priced. You can start there or go up to Apogee and Universal audio stuff. Going direct sucks. Real mics make the diff. Going direct is great for bass. In my opinion of course.
