What's the better way to deal with a poor master volume?

I had the PS-2 twice. If you need the bells and whistles, great. But, if you're looking to JUST tame a loud amp, there's more sensible options.
Who said any of us were sensible? I can't recall a time where I've heard the words sensible and rig-talk in the same sentence :ROFLMAO:

Sounds like it might have a linear taper MV pot. Switching to an audio taper can help. The SLO30 I just got a few weeks ago unfortunately is part of the early run where they used linear taper pots. I'm going to switch it over to audio taper in the next week or so and see how it behaves then.

If you don't want to go through all that, look at the JHS Little Black Amp Box or an equivalent. A volume pedal will work as well.
Wow, didn't know in modern times why anyone would use a linear pot for a master volume. Maybe BAD had trouble getting Audio taper ones, just seems weird they would launch with a linear taper. Pretty sure my Soldano HR25 has audio taper master volume pots for each channel, don't have trouble dialing in the volume for sure.

on my 1960 fender super I replaced the 500k linear taper volume pots with audio taper 500k, best thing I ever did for that amp. the later brown amps used 1meg audio taper, so even Fender learned pretty early :)

Yeah, it certainly seems like a design oversight.

It's funny how linear and log taper pots are on paper. you would think linear would be the way to go. With our ears linear just seems to lumps all the change in 10% sweep range
