Starting to be a bit of a deal breaker for me despite the smooth interface and crap load of features/functions. I have been scouring forums and google trying to find a simple way to see at least 8 mono channels and the best I can get are:

1/2 L
1/2 R
3/4 L
3/4 R
5/6 L
5/6 R
7/8 L

Ok I get it, choosing L or R essentially gives me a mono channel... but why can't I have a 7/8 R ??!! Does not show up, can't add it.. frustrating as hell. I'm trying to track my drums and was hoping for as many usable mics as possible for my 8 input presonus.

Anyone have a quick and dirty way to do this in Reaper 4 (and up) ? I was almost thinking of trying mixcraft because it looks so simple and probably perfect for hobbiest.

Yup reaper forums will clear up literally ANY and EVERY possible issue you could be having in a few seconds. Guys over there are ninjas.

Check the following setting:

options -> preferences -> audio -> device -> "enable inputs" (and also "output range" while you're there)

It's possible you haven't enabled the entire range of inputs and/or outputs for your device in Reaper.

You may also have to choose the appropriate driver, if it's not already chosen, on that same page in the preferences dialog. ("Audio system" and "ASIO driver".) It depends on what drivers are available for your device and how many inputs/outputs those drivers support. "Wave Out" for instance may not allow more than a certain number of ins/outs whereas ASIO (which if available for your device is probably the best choice for latency and stability anyway) should show all ins/outs under the drop-down menus that follow.

Also I'm not familiar with your audio device (and don't know which one you mean so I can't check it online or something), but it's possible the device only allows a certain number of ins and/or outs to be used simultaneously in some bit depth/sample rate settings (or when enabling some other features of the device). I doubt that's the case, but it's something to consider if you've already checked your driver settings in Reaper.
