Maybe dumb question! Thanks

Using the 4cm will allow you to run effects in front of the amp or in the loop or both. If you don't use any patches where the effects are needed in front, then you don't need to use the 4CM.

Hope this helps.

No, with the 4CM you can get your purple Christmas lights to flicker in sync with each other.

Two cables......

There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people

That said, the 4CM is to specifically designed to put effects both before the preamp of your amp AND after the preamp. The effects loop puts your effects after the preamp. Now, as was mentioned earlier, if you don't need to put effects before your preamp (these effects would most likely be things like compression, wah wah, overdrive), then you can use the amps effects loop and insert your effects unit, get your chorus, reverb and delay (as well as flanger, phaser, pitch shift, etc) AND be able to avoid the extra noise that often accompanies the 4CM.

Personally, I would rather have a wah, compressor and drive on my pedalboard, than use the 4CM...if that is possible...more effective, IMO.

Botton line, try the 4CM and listen. If it's too noisy, run the effects through the loop and listen again. It's really about what works for you. BTW, different amps react differently to the 4CM, in my experience. If you don't need the effects in front of the preamp, no reason to run it with 4CM...just avoid that all together :D

Good Luck!

and if its too noisy (it often is) run a decimator in the loop!

I run my Digitech iPB-10 (which is very similar to the OP's RP1000) in 4 cable method with my RM100, and it sounds great. No added noise whatsoever. I only use it for effects, but 4CM is essential for me, because I use the wah on the unit, which would sound terrible in the loop.

If it's too noisy then a ground loop would likely be the cause. Easily remedied though. Using the the RP in 4CM adds so many options.
