What's wrong with the used market ?

Mesa is very unpopular in general. The gear you're looking at is probably just out of vogue. Rectos were big in the 00s but they are dying out pretty fast compared to where they were at before. Mesa is even having financial trouble AFAIK.

That's strange I routinely search Mesa studio preamps online and they have been consistently around $500-750usd...

People can ask whatever outrageous price they want. That doesn't mean it sells. I think the used market is mostly down, I see good gear at reasonable prices not moving by me and I am close to a major metro area.

OP, are you in Europe? That would explain the crazy prices, at least with Mesa...you can find Marshalls, Diezels, etc cheap cheap but when it comes to Mesa I've always read that new or used, prices are sky high.

I get teased sometimes by my coworkers but I miss being able to find bargains in a store or swap meets, etc. I hate that everything is online and just a searchable item. There is nothing like thumbing thru albums, finding old guitars, books, etc.

It is a shame that people are trying to sell their stuff for almost new prices. If given the choice, people will always go new when prices are that close.

The same could be said about you with your excessively large signature.  Mesa is hardly in financial trouble, and their amps are hardly dying out.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.
This whole "free market" thing has fucked everything up in the used market (at least for musical instruments).
Yes, everyone can ask whatever price he wants that theoretically no one will pay but,
every now and then there will always be a stupid asshole who will pay this absurd price (for his own personal reasons).
So, the next seller will ask the same stupid price for the same product or even higher than that.
And every one of us who is looking to buy something used (there is a reason for that obviously) for a reasonably price, will get pretty much fucked.
And that's why the used market is FUBAR.
There should be a price limit for used equipment if you ask me.
A price limit depending the condition of the product and the price it was sold for when it was new.
It is NOT normal to sell a studio pre for 1.300$.
If we think like that then, the madness will have no limit..

I’d be willing to bet there are at least 1000 Marshall MG half stacks on Craigslist at any given time for $600 or more when they were only $500 POS’s brand new!

And listed as the same amp Jimi Hendrix used.

Right?

Mesa is unpopular?

Last I checked, the Mark II, III, C+, and all of their vintage line still runs as some of the topmost rare and desired amplifiers out there. Mesa isn't unpopular, just as Soldano isn't unpopular. People play what people want to play. The company is very much popular even when a quaint few dislike them.

Look at the prices for a Fortin 33 boost pedal   I'm sure it's a nice boost but c'mon

Yes, the used market in Norway is crazy. But that’s nothing new ? People have asked 90% of new price, or if it’s an older decent amp, a higher price than new. (We’re not talking original Plexis or anything, but most MKIIIs are listed from 12000 Nok and up. That’s 1800 dollars, give or take.)

It’s nuts, and the reason I’m off the bandwagon. I have a rack with an Engl 530 and a Marshall EL34 power amp, and a Randall RD50 combo with the Fortin tweaks. And it ends there.
