I have a gibson les paul custom with a maple neck that I want to change the stock pickups in.
I play mostly 70s and 80s rock by the way. I have a aldrich set in my other paul and I love them but wanted something different.
any suggestions?

Seymour Duncan '59's are great in a Les Paul. So is the JB/Jazz combo.

I like the pearly gates bridge and a alnico II pro in the neck.. I don't like high output pickups- I don't like to distort the preamp with my pickups. So I get the distortion from the amp.

I also like the Tripleclone but the WCR American Steele is hard to beat!

I tried the Duncan "whole Lotta Humbucker set in mine and I dig them. not high output but I like the tone

I'm looking at replacing what is in mine...probably the Paf 36th bridge and neck.

I have 36th anniversaries in my R7. I like em a lot! Nice and wide frequency range.

Sigil Bluesmans. I pretty much only play blues on my LPs, but they're hot enough for anything. Great pickups. Dave does other winds though, and he'd gladly do a custom wind for you if any of his wares don't appeal.

Check out the Sigil thread over at MLP for different winds.

I have 3 LP's

Duncan Antiquities in a R7 gold top (love them in this guitar)
DiMarzio 36 Anniversaries in a Traditional Plus
Duncan Custom in the bridge of a 57 RI BB7, stock in mid and neck

I'd go with Antiquities or 36ani's. Ive been on a lower output pickup kick, still hi gain amps but love the guitars volume rolled off a hair on the lower output pickups...seem to get more picking dynamics.

Since you play 70 and 80 stuff

And your Paul has maple neck Norton era.

Track down some patent stamped t tops.

All over evil bay.

Authentic tones.

Crunch Lab in the bridge Liquifire in neck. Gibson's Dirty Finger pickups rock as well IMO.

I dunno, depends on the guitar, amp, song, etc., You already have some hotter p'ups, probably try something a little cooler. Personally I really like the Bonamassa's right now, they do about everything I need.

I have a LP Std with Motor City Detroiter in the Bridge, stock in the neck, my LP Custom has the BKP Riff Raff (B) Mule (N), and my R0 has the stock pickups (Burstbucker 1 & 2). The R0 is perfect the way that it is and sounds great for any classic to hard rock.

I have these in my 3 LPs:
BKP Black Dog
MCP Detroiter
BKP Cold Sweat

I like the Black Dogs the best. Excels at all gain levels.
