wolfetone dr vintage is a great pick up for the les paul. I have one and love it. it can handle the high gain stuff and remain tight and articulate, is somewhat touch sensitive, and does the classic stuff great also. go to the wolfetone site and listen to clips, it rocks! there is also a wolfetone marshallhead I hear people talk up quite a bit.

all great suggestions, my guitar is not a Norton era, its a 2013

I have a LP Std with Motor City Detroiter in the Bridge, stock in the neck, my LP Custom has the BKP Riff Raff (B) Mule (N), and my R0 has the stock pickups (Burstbucker 1 & 2).

I've never tried the Riff Raff yet.. how would you compare it to the Detroiter? (which I do have)

I had a 2009 Standard that was chambered and I had these in it:

Burstbucker Pro's
Dimarzio 36th Anniversaries
Fralin High Output
Sheptone AB Customs
Wolfetone Marshallheads

I liked the Sheptones best in that guitar. Those were nice articulate pickups with a good range of sounds. I play 70's & 80's rock also.

Since you play 70 and 80 stuff

And your Paul has maple neck Norton era.

Track down some patent stamped t tops.

All over evil bay.

Authentic tones.

Gonna echo this. My Norlin LPC with maple neck I had was badass with the T-Tops in it.

Tried many and the Wolfetone Marshallheads do it all for me. From Classic Rock to Metal. They come stock with an alnico 5 mag in bridge, but many including myself use Wolfe's suggested alnico 2 version for a more classic sound. They are like a vintage hot around 9k bridge and not sure on the neck, cause I have the MKII neck and its bright with and A5 mag.

I've sold all other pickups including a set of BKP Mules just few days ago.

BUT.... I do wanna try them Motor City Pickups I hear people rave about and see many videos of people playing them.

obvious Shaw PAF's are great in les pauls, so long as they're wax potted.
I had aldriches in my maple necked 81 lp custom, and that smoked.
other than that, The 490t, the duncan custom 5, pearly gates, dimarzio breeds, and classic 57's are all nice.
Duncan seymourized mini humbuckers (the alnico 5 ones) if you have an lp deluxe.

I like the Duncan Custom bridge, Gibson 57 Classic neck combo, for now.

DiMarzio DP156 Neck
DiMarzio DP100 Bridge

Also like the Gibson 496R/500T set with the Bridge volume pot changed to 500K. YMMV

Seth Lover bridge, Antiquity neck. Love it. Although, the Seth can be noisy, and it gets microphonic at loud volumes and hi gain in close proximity to the amp. Still, perfect tone. Like it better than the Burstbucker 3 in my SG.

I kept my 35th Anniversary LPC stock until the lead pickup got a little weak/bright and couldn't match the neck anymore. At that point I just wanted something to more or less match what the lead was originally, with just a tad more umph, to match the neck. That was a Suhr Aldrich. Now it is perfect. Everything stock except for the Aldrich.

DiMarzio Super Distortion with a PAF in the neck. Or Duncan Custom with a 59 in the neck.

This is like asking what your favorite ice cream is and from what place. Granted there are some pickups that may sound better in some Les Pauls but each Les Paul, can be different so it's hard to say. You have to try them and decide. I have Ox4 pickups in my R8. They sound great. I decided to put them in another Les Paul. The neck sounds really good but the bridge  so I have another pickup coming to try in that spot. If I don't like it I will list it for sale and order another. A particular pickup in a particular guitar may sound great through my setup but not yours. It's a buy, try, and flip game if you want the best pickups for your particular Les Paul and setup.

That's easy, Graeter's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, anytime. Pickups are tougher, a lot of variables,, how are the OX4s?? I have some Zhangbuckers in my R8, Pagey 2 in the neck and a hotter Pagey 2 in the bridge which puts it close to a Brownbucker, def some killer pups! Thought about trying some OX4s in R7.

It's Norlin, not Norton.
As far as pickups, stock in the neck position, and Jackson J90Cs in the bridge...cheap high output ceramic that sounds great in mahogany bodied guitars with rosewood or ebony boards. As good as a Duncan Distortion or an Aldrich (I have both).
