When Tom Morello tries to play with real guitarists...

If Tom wants that priority seating, he needs to woodshed a bit more
 
I used to hate on Tom, too. I was also 14, so take that as you will.

I don’t really dig RATM and there’s only a couple Audislave tunes I dig. I used to shit all over him because my best friend loves them, I dunno what song it is, but he’d play me this one RATM song that has a shreddy solo in it, as if that were going to convince me to dig the band.

I was a Vai, Gilmour and Dimebag nut, all 3 were doing awesome shit with the Whammy pedal in that timeframe, so when I saw Tom was using one I cut him some slack. One of the bands I was in towards the end or after high school was covering some RATM stuff, I actually had a blast learning and recreating that shit. The songs were still fairly meh to me, but the solos were a fun departure from the normal thing.

I wouldn’t have wanted to hear Tom onstage with those dudes, copping out and trying to fit in. Doesn’t seem like a wise idea on a stage with fucking Steve Vai, Ritchie Kotzen and Nuno Bettencourt, but a really good way to fall flat on his face. And while some here would argue he DID fall flat on his face with what he played, being that he was standing alongside those dudes, I don’t know which way ya’ll are punching. Or if you even know which way you think you’re punching.

I don’t play that political bullshit, the idea of identifying myself by a political affiliation makes my stomach turn. I don’t know what the fuck Morello is on about, I’m sure he’s a commie marxist liberal whatever because it seems the righties hate him more than the lefties but I couldn’t give a fuuuuuuuuuck.

I don’t pay attention to the politics of the musicians I love, never mind the ones I barely care about. Seeking reasons to be angry or have disputes with people I do not know seems like a magnificent waste of time.
 
I thought RATM was cool in the 90’s but they didn’t age well and belong in the cringe box as far as I’m concerned.

Whether you give a fuck or not, he is being shoved down our throats because of his political affiliation, not his guitar playing.

That's why he is on stage where he doesn't belong. DEI musician, political activist.

You are right of course but the political climate is tougher to ignore now than I can ever remember. Morello’s anti establishment thing is what it is—a little mocking in the underbelly of a guitar forum is as good a way as any to vent. Hopefully that’s all it is—shit’s way too heavy to lug around constantly
