For some reason even though I love the brand dearly. I did find the Friedman Runt 20 Combo to be very Boxy and Nasally

I never cared for any uber of any revision, to me they all sound "muddy" and smeared

I've never tried the UU, I've asked a bunch of people how they compare to the older revisions specifically to try to determine what the deal is with them

A few people hate them, I think it’s fuckin legit. No boost needed or anything. I love Ubers, but I always boosted older revisions. I honestly think you would like the ultra more than the other revisions.

I can't stand the EQ on most of the older revisions of uber. I don't think I could bring myself to spend that much money on an UU but I'd love to actually try one someday just to see if I get along with it better
The clips certainly sound better of the UU but i've been burned by uberschalls before LOL
"Wow this rev green sounds different than the twin jet i'll try it" - ends up sounding like a bloated mess like all other ubers

I don’t think they’re at all the right amps for your style, but for the right styles sound amazing. I think the smeared quality cones from them being so over the top greasy/juicy with those gigantic chewy low mids. It’s also what makes it great for where they excel and also feel so fun and effortless to play through. Definitely the complete opposite of when I want a more percussive rhythm sound. It’s so fat it makes my Recto’s sound almost like Marshall’s in comparison lol. I feel one of its fortes is more melodic European types of metal. There’s a very musical, melodic quality to them that got completely lost from Rev Blue onwards IME
Having tried almost everything besides a real TW now, I don’t think any amp I’ve tried is as good for your styles as the Larry’s. If I were playing that stuff I’d just use that and sometimes when I’d want something different that can still work the Cornford RK100 boosted, IIC (not plus), and Lenz Hot Chili

I’d predict you’ll get along with them better technically from being tighter/more focused, but the core tone quality/richness is just plain terrible imho at least for what I find inspiring in sound. Just so damn filtered, sterile and synthetic sounding

My advice for the UU if you ever get a chance to try one:
1. Stick with channel 1 Uber mode first, I think it’s tighter and has a better slice than channel 2 Uber or Ultra mode, no matter how the Metamorph knob is dialed.
2. Keep the Presence very high and the Treble under noon, otherwise it gets really notchy / pokey, and the exaggerated “cardboard” quality @braintheory talks about really comes out.

No idea if you'd like the UU but it's a pretty different amp from the other Ubers. If you do get a chance to try one I'd be interested to know how you go.
I'm getting to like it more after spending more time fiddling. I actually wish I had waited to make that video because I've learned that Hair+, Deep high, Density low works better for most things.
But yeah it's a colder core tone, especially if you're fond of a Rev Blue's thick & rich thing. But I managed to get the Ch 1 Uber mode ballpark to a Blue with something like this:
Pres 3:00, Hair+
Depth max
Density 9:00
Ch1: B/M/T = 3:00, 2:30, 1:00
The upper mids still weren't quite right but overall not too far off.

Yep. It’s easy to get those wrong too. They’re hugely impactful to the tone of the amp but adjusting Density (NFB) is such a foreign concept to a lot of players that they just kind of ignore it.
Also, the Depth knob is not a standard Depth control. The manual says it’s a post-gain boost at specifically 80 Hz instead of a traditional, specialized NFB control like most Depth controls are, so use that info how you will.

I think this is a funny thing too.
Everyone turns the negative feedback the opposite direction, which is the complete opposite of what an original uberschall is.
If you’re trying to do something different absolutely go for it. But if you want it to sound like the OG that negative feedback is wildly different.

I agree with all that to get the most out of it, but that’s all it did for me: get the most of out of it, while it still wasn’t satisfactory to me at all in its core tonal & feel qualities and just frankly was nowhere near as good when AB’ed with my Rev 1 Uber and KT150 Hell Razor. To clarify, if I didn’t own those amps and maybe a few others there’s a good chance I’d keep it and enjoy it for what it is. It seems those that love the UU haven’t tried the Rev 1 Uber’s from what I can tell. They’re not as tight or modern, but in every other way to me far superior and for tight and modern there are other amps I feel are so much better for that niche. I guess it can have a place depending what one has

I am not even the one to talk, as I never played a Mark, but knowing James used adittional EQ in the loop of Marks to cut mids after cutting them on GEQ says something to me lol

I totally agree with you with respect to settings. When AB’ed I was able to get it very close to my OG Uber in terms of overall eq profile, punch and bigness (the UU is great in those departments for sure), but it didn’t have still an ounce of the OG’s richness, warmth, chewiness and the feel was night and day different in terms of the OG being way more connected and greasy. It’s these little details I guess that aren’t little for me. It was a classic “from concentrate” vs fresh squeezed oj comparison for me where it’s like the UU was missing the pulp and all the other beautiful qualities that made it special if that makes any sense. I did though like to take advantage also sometimes of the tighter, more modern stuff it could do
