Doug Aldrich, Angus Young and Slash come to mind for me. I'm currently on the quest for a new(or used) head and starting to narrow down the tones that will work for me. I need to find a good link to Slash's rig and what he uses to figure a few things out.

I was thinking what player/setup comes to mind for you when you think of a great roaring Marshall tone? Is it a newer model Marshall? Is it an old school JMP? Is it a reissue with some simple mods?

EVH
Angus and AC/DC in general
Vivian Cambell's tone on Rainbow In The Dark
Accept's Balls to the Wall

Cream-era Clapton
Hendrix
EVH
Plankton
EJ

All pretty much stock Marshall sounds shaped by the context of the rig that they're in and the style of the players...

guess i think by albums.

Riot- Fire Down Under

Scorpions- Lovedrive

Accept- Restless and Wild

so guess that's JMP territory?

I saw Pat Travers play through a 900.

Angus... Evil Walks from "For Those About To Rock" ...

There's the juiciest Marshall tone ever recorded in my opinion!!

Ritchie on Rainbow Rising- not your cliche humbucker through Marshall tone

For me it depends on what you consider a Marshall tone.(Stock or Modded) A lot of the guys I dig used a shitload of EQ or a modded amp. When I think Stock Marshall tones I think Ac/DC,Free, Bad company ,Aerosmith,Hendrix and a ton of other bands.

When I think hopped up Marshall tones I think of

Eddie Van Halen
Ronnie LeTekro
Warren DeMartini
George Lynch
Steve lukather
Harry Cody on the Second coming album
Michael Schenker
Matthias Jabs / Scorps
Dave Meniketti
Slash
Accept
Foreigner
