When you think Marshall tone - What player comes to mind?

  • Thread starter Thread starter tweed

Hendrix
Malmsteen
EVH
Beck
Lynch
Angus
Page
Clapton (Cream)
EJ
Aldrich
Norum
Allman

AC/DC any of it

Accept Balls to the Wall

TNT

EVH (though I don't like his tone)

Uli Roth (Virgin Killers disc)

MSG (Armed and Ready)

Priest (Delivering the Goods)

Too broad a question. Dozens of guys. And not necessarily guys who play Marshalls.

Angus... Evil Walks from "For Those About To Rock" ...

There's the juiciest Marshall tone ever recorded in my opinion!!
+1 Keith, FTATR was the first AC/DC album I bought new, love it.

EVH
Angus and AC/DC in general
Vivian Cambell's tone on Rainbow In The Dark
Accept's Balls to the Wall

Adding......

Yngwie
Dokken's ULAK
Lynch Mob's WS
Ratt Out of the Cellar
Lynyrd Skynyrd
First Boston Album

Wicked Sensation was a combo of Marshall/Soldano- GL liked the blending of those two tones each one adding what the other lacked. I don't think ULAK was 'stock' either.
Lynryd Skynryd was a Peavy operation
First Boston album?? Scholz is a notorious mad scientist and that album is not a 'stock' marshall tone-he did a lot of tricks to the whole signal path- some of which became stuff you could buy(Rockman) and some he kept to himself. I read an article where he talked about trying to get consistency and analyzed everything so much he was down to the humidty in the speakers themselves affecting the tone.

If i could think of one player that's a consistent/passionate Marshall guy from day 1:

Yngwie

not to exclude Roth/Johnson/ACDC

Funny how the 3 guys who don't get mentioned here much are the 3 guys who were responsible for the JCM800 prices to shoot through the roof.

Zakk Wylde, Slash, and Morello. :D :scared:

A lot of my first thoughts have already been hit, but there are a couple new ones -

Def Leppard - High N' Dry (and a fair amount of Pyromania)
Some of the old Dave Mustaine stuff

Holy crap I'm doomed!!!

I just listened to the Rack Systems Marshall Mods clip. :scared: :scared: :scared:

Dude...just come over and play my splawn. Anytime you want.

According to Lynch, ULAK was primarily a bone stock purple 1959 borrowed from Aspen Pittman.

The SLO did a couple of solos, the rest was Aspen's Plexi from most reports.

Lynch = 1959s

Is it wrong to say "me?"

Seriously though, as much as I hate to admit it, I bought Marshall because I had tried out a few amps, talked to my Dad about it, and he said to get the Marshall.

Next day I got a TSL 100.

For me...
Hendrix, Beck, Blackmore DiMeola, Roth, Schenker, Yngwie, AC/DC, Gary Moore
