Where do the hell razor mids sit????

Based on memory (didn't have them side by side) I'd say the mids sit higher by default than the MTL I had, but maybe lower than the MC I had (hard to say). However, with how interactive the gain controls and bright controls are (on the back) it seems like I can dial it in to have more low mid presence or upper mid presence if desired than I remember getting in either amp (MC and MTL)(hard to say for sure without AB though) and certainly a lot more gain, tightness and attack. Regardless of where the mids sit, all the Wizard's I've had have a smooth, round midrange that doesn't really growl. Especially noticeable with the extra gain of the HR, it's like it's so clear and defined in its distortion that it doesn't wanna get a throaty growl, but also can make other amps seem comparatively undefined, almost muddy lol. Both mine and the other poster’s Hell Razor are KT150 models fwiw vs the MTL and MC I had being EL34 powered

So would it be redundant to have both and just boost my MCII?
Not sure about the MCII (haven't played one), but the '96 MC (100w EL34 with C Tranny) I had boosted couldn't achieve what I get with my Hell Razor KT150. If anything, my Hell Razor KT150 (with no pedal) makes me feel the MC and MTL I had are redundant, but I had other amps that got me to sell those 2

So can you “dial back” the HR into those other amps sonic footprint?

I wanna say probably, but I’d have to AB to those amps to really know and dialing it back like that isn’t really something I’d go for anyway. If anything I was trying to get the MTL and MC I had at the time to be more like what I am ultimately getting with the HR KT150. I will say it’s possible the powertube and tranny differences may come out in AB comparisons, but I wouldn’t know

Also, to be clear, this isn’t like a by default extreme metal, compressed amp. It’s very open like the other wizards and definitely an amp I’d feel very at home at playing various styles of rock or old school metal on, but since it is tighter, more attacky and has more gain on tap, it also can imo work more easily for extreme styles of metal if you wanna go there vs the MTL and MC I had

Yeah I also was trying to get the sound that the hr ended up having with my MC- to me it just has way more gain staging options

Yeah for me it just has more of what I liked in the MC and MTL I had: bigger, punchier, more horsepower, tighter, more attack, more gain, more range of eq stuff I can do

Goddamn, it sounds like the perfect amplifier
It's up there for me, a top 5-er and there's not too much I haven't tried yet besides a real Train Wreck lol, but I haven't really played any amp yet that I think is perfect. I'd be lying also if I said I wasn't curious now about how the EL34 or KT200 Hell Razor would compare lol. Looks like we may also have similar taste as some of my other favorites are also my IIC+ HRG and Hermansson Rev G Dual Recto
