???? I assume some sort of Marshall (stock or modded). I'm looking for an amp to blend with my Mesas and Engl.

A Laney VH or GH model is surely a contender. Maybe a DSL as well...(?)

I'm voting Marshall here... And in addition to the head, the cabinet is a mondo consideration as well

Good luck!

Mesa Stiletto stage II will stab you in the face with upper mids!

I agree with this. ^^^
I always run a stereo rig with a Modern High Gain Monster
and an amp with a Marshallesque vibe to it.
One covers the medium to lower mid spectrum and the other
cover the medium to upper mids.

I ran a Soldano SLO and a Diezel Herbert
with great results!!
Or the Elmwood Modena M90
My favorite combination was the Herbert/Bogner XTC 101B

This is really a no-brainer -- the Tone King Metropolitan. Easily.

Bogner XTC was the first thing that popped into my head if you want a lot of upper mid that doesn't get harsh. That's one of the coolest amps I've ever heard blended with other tight high gainers in a live setting.

I was thinking of the XTC too, but the 101B is a little more focused in the lower-middle mids range I think... Maybe the Classic or 20th would fit the bill?

yeah, you might be right man. I just remember the 101B having a kind of pronounced midrange that really stood out, yet never got harsh. I think the VH4 would fit the bill too, has that same vibe with a pronounced upper mid that would take work to actually get harsh. Both those amps have an enourmous lowend thump too, I'm just remembering how well the XTC in particular seemed to blend with other high gainers.

The VH4 holds its mid section together well and articulates the mids across the complete range, regardless of the gain level. And, it does mix with about any other amp.

the Bogner Uber Twin Jet (especially the modded one) is one of the first amps I have actually had to dial back the mids on recently.
I normally dial in a Marshall with the mids at 3 o'clock...but on the TJ anything over 12-1 is crazy mids.

amazing how well that amp cuts a mix...
