I got an Apogee Jam to use with my iPhone for practicing. I've been using Garage Band but the amps don't sound all that great to me.
I've been looking at the app store and there's a bunch of stuff like Amplitude, Appkit, Jam-up, BIAS, etc.
What do you guys reccomend?

I'm happy with BIAS and JamUP. Don't know why, but using the actual BIAS app sounds not great. But opening the BIAS amps in the JamUP app sounds fantastic to me.

Bias is pretty cool and pretty cheap.

Haven't tried the others though.

I go from Bias FX/Amplitube/Ampkit+ on my Ipad. I love the layout of Bias FX above the others. Tonewise i don't think there's a world of difference between them. For what I do, I like the tones of Amplitube but the fx routing isn't as flexible as i would like it. I run it all with the IRig HD, which sonically isn't much different from the Apogee Jam, which a friend of mine has. Wish i would have waited on the HD2, which came out weeks after i got the HD. Got most of them on sale.

I get a lot of use out of Bias on my Macbook. I'd go that route to start.

Are there any decent hardware modules on the market for silent practicing? If Fractal made a pod-esque unit with a small number of amps & basic FX & limited functionality, i'd buy one in a heartbeat. None of the software packages cut it for me.

Hard to beat an Apogee Jam and an iPhone. Maybe you'd like the Amplifire. I've heard mostly positive things about it.
