I'm piggybacking off of hellzington's recent post. I've been in gear hoarder mode for a hot minute, and having the thought of "Do I really need all this?" Money isn't necessarily the issue, but space and absurdity. I thought I would poll the audience and see if anything is worth getting rid of. I am reorganizing my guitar room and re-wiring, shelving all my extra amps etc so I am feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Here is my list of things that could be seen as over the top and superfluous. Not meant to flex but I legitimately am wondering if I am insane for having a lot wrapped up in space/cash in potential minutiae:
  1. 1979 Marshall 2203
  2. 1987 Marshall (Hermansson 3 stage - this is staying)
  3. 1989 Marshall (Gower Killer Kali)
  4. 1974 Marshall (Fortin Cali)
  5. 1993 Marshall SLP (Ground Zero MOAB - This is staying)
  6. Mesa Triple Rectifier (JT Mod)
  7. Mesa Dual Rectifier (Hermansson - this is staying)
  8. Mesa Dual Rectifier Rev F
  9. Mesa Mark IIC++
  10. Mesa Mark IVB
  11. Landry G3 LS100
  12. Peavey 5150
  13. Omega Granophyre
  14. Ground Zero Hellion
  15. Hiwatt Super Hi-50
  16. Hiwatt Custom 100 DR103 - (currently listed)
  17. 1991 Soldano SLO-100 Rack SLO
I have a few more incoming:
  1. 1996 Wizard MC 1
  2. Mesa Dual Rectifier Rev D
  3. Hermansson 5 stage
I am basically at max space with all these and wondering if these are redundant or stupid. I could also be having a hoarder moment. I have 5 cabinets that may be widdled down to free up space. I also have a 60 slot effects rack which eats up a wall basically with some vintage stuff (2290, PCM 81, PCM 70, etc etc). Any opinions are welcome (either talking me out of moving anything or pointing out large redundancies).

You guys do this on purpose, so I sit and cry, yeah? lol

To me, it seems like nicely diversified selection, even though a little bit heavy on Marshalls, but I would say quite keepable. Count me talking you out of selling.

With exception of 2c++, but strictly to me and strictly when I earn enough lol

A. You must promptly send me all your excess amps for expert analysis. I will play them for at least 10 years before I make my decision. Then we can discuss the hostile takeover that has occurred.

B. You can never have enough and must continue going.

C. Sell everything, get backstage plus and metal zone, and an 88 rg550.

Think about redundant tones that you may have covered by multiple amps (like the rectifiers for example) and sell the ones you like the least.

Another good piece of advice I’ve read is to wait 6 months, make note of what amps you haven’t touched in that timeframe and then let them go.

I’d literally sell nothing.

Everything that you could sell to minimize risk of depreciation you already want to keep or have listed already.

As far as the vintage wall rack I just purchased a 12 space shock rack to house my own vintage rack gear and recording gear.

Vintage gear is getting harder to find, keep that in mind these days. I’d think really hard before you let something go saying you could get another.

Sorry. Your collection is well thought out and I’ve got nothing to recommend. If anything I think you need another 5150 of some sort :cheers2: ?

Come on now……

Is this a thing now? Really?

I always thought the “Tell me what amp to buy” thread was rediculous, but now we need advice on what to sell?

If you really feel like you need the space and what you have is excessive, than just make a call on your own and start listing stuff.
Contrary to what was said above, anything you sell can be repurchased. Don’t overthink it.

Haha I always debate an el34 5150. That may be in The cards at some point. Thanks!

I’d kick the redundant stuff… but that’s just me. Multiple Marshall’s and rectos you could sell a few, especially the rev d vs the rev f, just see what you like more and keep that one. I wind up getting rid of the stuff that I don’t wind up plugging into frequently.

I don't like modded Marshalls. Stock is good enough and it's a crime to mod the vintage stuff. But .... if someone stole most of my gear and left me with one good guitar and amp, as pissed as I'd be, I can't say my playing or tone would really suffer. It's not like I play a gig and anyone in the crowd comes up later and says, "Hey, you should have used your Silver Jubilee and Les Paul instead of your 2203 and EBMM EVH."

12. Peavey 5150

Block Letter? Signature? I'll step in line if you decide to put this on the chopping block. I'd also be curious about your IVB. Two of the biggest regrets I've had was selling my 5150/Mark IV rig. It nailed all those In Flames and Lamb of God tones. Always wish I kept them.

If I were in your shoes I'd keep:
'79 2203
'87 Marshall Hermansson
'91 Soldano SLO-100 Rack
Mesa Dual Rectifier Hermansson
IIC++

You can cover an incredible range of tones with those amps. Keep the IIC++ purely for the investment, in case they go into Dumble territory.

Haha it’s a hyper clean block letter. If it ever goes up I’ll let you know.

The IVB is a legit time capsule long head (so is the IIC). Pristine still with the stock paper on top with explanations of the controls. I got it from the first owner a few years ago who was a keyboard player and got one and stored it for years.

Solid suggestions for sure.

I wouldn’t sell a single thing. Everything on that list is essentially cash in say 3-7k increments, growing in value you could move in a second. If it were me I’d build a shelf that covers the entire wall with slots for heads up top and cabs below. Also please make sure that shits insured, god forbid something happens and your out 60k+.

Like you’re that fucking stupid?

If you are, you do not deserve what you own.

I don't really understand why people like the SLO-100 so much. It's got this grainy dryness to it and a very apparent lack of high midrange that I don't like. I'd get rid of that and the 5150. I don't care for most Peavey's including the 5150... it's that honky sounding midrange that I don't like, and the lack of clarity. If you had a Diezel VH4, i'd say get rid of that too, the high end is weird on those amps, like there's a lack of high end saturation and the lows are bouncy sounding.
