Looking for a high gain amp to pick up where my Wizard MCII leaves off, just something with a ton of gain yet remain clear and is versatile.

A ton of gain with both clarity and versatility sounds like a Diezel Herbert och Elmwood 3100 IMO.
The Elmwood is probably pretty hard to find though :(

I probably say this in every other post but.......lol

I was going to vote Uber but I want the green and I see you would get a blue. So I chose other and would say check out the clips on the KSR Ares and Orthos.

I would narrow it down to a Green Uber or a KSR amp. Price would play a factor too but that is for me. I just like super brutal high gain amps.

I did play a Herbert and for you I agree with Whatamada. The Herbert was in fact the most punishing amp I have ever played. I literally felt it in my rib cage AND it was very very clean sounding.

The problem for me is that it was almost too clean and maybe even too compressed? idk. I played it in a music store so I never got to play in a mix or anything.

My practical experience says to go for the Stealth paired with a VHT/Fryette FatBottom 412 cab \m/ -- but man, the romantic in me says Diezel Herbert on top of a Mills Afterburner 412 ftmfw. If money's not an obstacle, that is.

I've always been a Mesa fan, i think they are some of the best high gain amps ever made, so i'd go Recto. Actually, out of every high gain amp tube amp I've played and owned, the Mark series is my fav. The Mark III and Mark iV are killer, haven't owned a V yet, but I plan to. Bogner is great too, but Mesa's have a very unique sound that I like. When I look at a new amp, it's gotta have something that separates it from the rest, some unique tonal character... I don't like the EVH or any of the 5150 heads... they all sound kinda generic to me. Everyone that uses them has a really boring overly smooth tone IMO.

I'm one of the rare people that found the 6505 and 5150 to be kinda stale as well. Mesa fan boy here as well. Own a Mark V currently.

Well out of the bunch you just listed, I would go with the uber. But for those big, heavy, and clear tones I would even recommend checking out Diezel amps if you can. They're not my cup of tea but they're one of a kind when I think of those type of tones.

I'd get a Recto, but it wouldn't be my first choice if clarity was a defining characteristic of what I was looking for.

I vote the Stealth. :D
Thing is so clear and tight. Sounds like a Custom modded amp if that makes sense.
I know the story behind it basically a 5150 III modded to EVH specs he plays. But I have owned shit load of amps and played damn near everything under the sun.
This thing Delivers the Goods.
Crystal clear cleans.....to the most Brutal Metal you can think of.
And everything in between. ;)
