My latest case of G.A.S. is for a Marshall JTM 45. Let it be clear, I have absolutely no practical use for an amp like this. I was wondering what clone people recommend. Germino, Metropoulos, Marshall reissue, Mojave, etc. and why. I realize they are impractically loud and are not high gain monsters. I want a straightforward blues machine. Not a modern take with additional gain stages, channel switching, etc. I am not opposed to a vintage Marshall but I assume they are difficult to find in good condition electrically and cosmetically at a reasonable price point and with no mods. Seems people can't resist the urge to mod these things.

I went through this same search a few years ago.

The Germino and Reinhardt both sound incredible. But a Reinhardt Storm will get you more tones, and at usable volumes.

I was not impressed with the Marshall reissues.

the ceriatone jtm45 is pretty toneful. you could add a post phase for bringing the volume down a tad but youll prob find that you like the jtms volume.

Probably my favorite amp demo out there. I love this tone and have played one of these. They are truly amazing but extremely loud!!!!!

     Some really great tones in that video.

For the price the ceriatone is great, for a variation with more on tap check out the dirty Shirley or the bray 45 or 45/50 hybrid. Brays prices are pretty good also considering.

Thanks for the Granger and ceriatone suggestions. Keep em' coming.

Metro or Germino. I went through this and these two are most vintage correct and awesome. The Dirty Shirley is a take on it. Bur listen to the GPM45 clips on the Metro web site. I got a Germino Monterey which is a JTM 45/100 clone. Could not be happier.

BTW, that demo Lance did sounds nuts on like my Germino Monterey. But I would say it isn't the loudest amp. The JTM 45/100 is 70 watts, and is only a few db louder at the sweet spot than the JTM45 model. The difference in girth in the tone is huge though, and the JTM45/100 is solid state rectified, not tube rectified. So it is indeed different.

I'm so glad you posted that! I remember seeing that and wanting a 45/100 really bad. I don't think the 45's sound like that. tThe 45/100's have a different sound that I dug big time. Killer with a strat.

Anyone have any personal experience with the Granger stuff? I like what I'm hearing on the clips and the price is great for this type of amp. I'm also more interested in the Dirty Shirley after checking the Tone Merchants site. Thanks for the suggestion. It was not on my radar since I was pretty dead set against anything except for a back to basics JTM 45 circuit but the Dirty Shirley sounds like it is a twist on the JTM 45 without being a totally gained out or overly complex monster.

If you can find one a Heritage Colonial is a killer amp and can be had for a grand. Paul Cochrane built.
