Which way to go for amping an Axe-FX II

Hey Guys,

I must confess lately my tube amps have been staying at home in favor of gigging with the Axe-FX II. Most of the places I play stage volume is non-existent or very low and we play with in-ear monitors so the Axe-FX is really the perfect portable rig for those times.

That being said, occasionally I'd like to supplement that with a little stage volume. I'm considering two directions.. one is buying a Matrix GT1000 1U and using my guitar cabinets (Mesa, Port City)..

The other is going full range and buying something like a QSC KW122.

Sure, the guitar nerd in me says amp and cabinets but the realist in me realizes that the QSC would double as a wedge for times I want it and would weigh roughly half the weight of my cabs.

I'm curious as to what others are doing. I know some do the Matrix and cabs (Pete Thorn) and others do the QSC full range (Dweezil Zappa). Do you guys have thoughts/opinions?

I use a Matrix GT800fx with my Axe II through many different cab options...i.e. 2x12s, 4x12s and really dig the tone and feel. I only have experience with Atomic FRFR pwr wedges....I prefer the pwr amp into a cab MUCH more. It depends on your playing scenario though. Sounds like your gig is best suited for the wedges.
 
Just got a couple active wedges... They're intense and very good. What you're hearing in your IEMs and the FOH and what's coming directly out of the A2, is what these little beasts will give you.

Secondly, they're f*ckin' loud :D :rock:

I'm in the same predicament ATM. I like the idea of running my vox and guitar through the same wedge, but I also run IEM so running through a quad for stage sound as well as control of added guitar in the IEM is also an option. Decisions, decisions.

Might get more of a pop out of the crowd if you post this question on the FAS board?
