My sister married one of my best friends, his older brother is a SEAL. I just saw him a month or so ago at his grandmothers funeral, he's sporting a helluva beard that's "work related" and is now out of the country for 6 months. He's stationed in Virginia, or South Carolina, I'm not sure which.

It's kinda weird that he's a SEAL, I never would have thought it. I grew up with him, I can see his parents house from mine, and he was hell on wheels in high school and later. Drinking, wrecking cars, changed jobs about ever 2 months. He went into the Navy late (25 yrs or so), and was planning to learn underwater welding so he could get a job working on oil rigs etc. I'm still not sure what happened there...

USS CVN73 1990 - 1996.

C School in San Diego for 6 months, ET1 when I left.

So what is so funny?

btw............I believe one of the forum members was a Seal as well so really start to laugh your ass off

There is someone on this board who is an ex-Seal. I won't out him, though. The one time I met him, he was a very nice guy and a great guitar player. My feeling is this: if you sign on the dotted line that you have the chance to be on the receiving end of enemy fire, that makes you a bad ass...regardless of the branch, unit, etc.....There are heroes from all branches and MOSs.....this coming from someone who spent a li'l time with Force Recon. ;)

+1

I never believe most of these stories (no offense to anyone in particular.)

My uncle, who was just your average grunt during Vietnam and lost a finger and half of the platoon he was with during an ambush on patrol, kinda says the same thing....no one ever want to admit they were Motor T or a cook during the war....everyone was special forces...nothing to feel ashamed of if you served your country, regardless of the MOS.

i was a squid too.

one of my CCs in boot camp supposedly went as far as dive training in BUDS. apparently he had some sort of inner ear problem that prevented him from diving below 50', so he washed out.

one day during PT, one of the guys in my company that wanted to go to BUDS was doing 2 pushups for every one the rest of us would do. this CC saw him, and was apparently offended. he put the rest of us at ease, and then told the overachiever to keep up with him. he then started doing pushups faster than anyone could possibly say "down-up". this went on until the recruit quit, which was about 90 seconds. i'm convinced he (the CC) could have done that all day.

that guy was definitely a hardcase, regardless of how true his BUDS story was.

Inside Delta Force is a good book, written by one of the early members who also consulted on 'the unit' but he's not working with them anymore. There's another book I can't think of the name right now, written by a surviving member of Seal Team Six- lost his buddies in Afghanistan. It's a good read.

Forget all the combat stories... what amazes me is what they go through in training and how many guys wash out. Especially considering that the guys who try for Delta/Seals/etc are already cream of the crop to begin with.

Anybody who served in the US military has my respect. I wanted to serve, had 99 percentile ASVAB tests, but couldn't for medical reasons.

Oh, and I do have a cousin who was a Ranger Medic. :D

Ive only met one guy that overstated what he did in the service and it turned out that he was never even in the service LOL!!!! I have a client who is a West Point grad and he was in Vietnam. I had said to him that I was thankful for his service, his anwer was " I was an inventory/supply guy (or something like that) I never came close to anything that resembled combat".

The overwhelming majority of guys that Ive run into were straight up and honest about what they did or didnt do. However, The few guys that I have run into that were special forces,SEALs etc were the ones who said the least; very humble..

Of all the people I know that went to Iraq, not one of them actually wants to talk that much about it.

How would you know if the stories you've been told are true or not?

Well after going through the facts we post our findings here to let you decide

while i was in the navy, i met a guy who said he was a seal...who went to (and washed out of) nuke school. he had a story about how the navy wanted a nuke seal, blah blah blah.

if you have a semi cogent BS detector, and you ask enough questions, the liars will out themselves.

the guy also said his ford ranger had a 302 from the factory because it had 8 spark plugs

basically, the way i knew that POS was lying was if his lips were moving

this is true. the other guitar player in my band has been twice, and is scheduled to go to afghanistan later this year. he's mechanized infantry, so he's always in the shit.

If I was an insecure twirp like alot of folks, I could lie to anyone on here about anything in my past and they'd believe it.

I didnt really hear a whole lot of stories and youre right, You never know what the truth is but the most of the people that Ive actually taken the time to speak with were friends of good friends/family or decent people with no reason to fabricate. I didnt serve(came real close to enlisting in the navy. All of my cousins and uncles served, my father served, Im about the only male in my family that didnt. Im pretty sure that I dont need to wonder if those stories were true or not...

What makes you think that people just blindly buy into lies?

What makes you think that people just blindly buy into lies?

Insecure people lie, because they're not happy with who they are... They want to be something they're not and they're out to impress people to make themselves feel better.

Gullable or naive people believe the lies when they hear them, because they're too weak minded to realize someone is bullshitting them.

Let me put it this way... My BS detector has been proven right MANY times in the past, so I trust it. I call BS on alot of stuff I read online.

LOL!!! I had a pretty good idea of why Chris but thanks for taking the time to explain it to me.

And likewise, I trust my instincts and have seen more than my share of BS as well and am pretty damn good at sniffing out the weak minded and insecure on the web, Many of them fool themselves into believing theyre something that arent.

Theyre the same guys who think that theyre something special because they bought a certain piece of gear or some other material possession , music related or not. In the end, theyre nothing more than poseurs; Insecure, weak minded and loaded with issues, desperately seeking attention...

Not that any of this had anything to with I had posted previously...

BTW, didnt you mention that you were going to the NY amp show? whats bringing you out this way?

Here's a pic of me and my girlfriend.......
