Who has played the Gower Rockmonster? Amazing amp.

I have had the Rockmonster for around 5 or 6 months I think and I am loving it!! I play for hours every day. The amp is quite versatile and can do a lot, especially in the realm of high gain. You can dial in many high gain tones. It excels in the 80s harder rocking tones, but can do so much more. Two channels, each has a master and gain, foot switchable, great fx loop, a push/pull depth control that gives the amp some serious low end, but can also be dialed in tighter or not so tight, the toggle switch for low/high gain also changes the amp up quite a bit, I like to put it on the low gain setting sometimes then turn the gain up to about 3/4, and man, watch out, you have the punchiest and tightest growling gain around!! This thing is great for playing with a drummer and bassist, it does not get eaten up be them, it sits in the mix very nicely. Even when on the high gain setting and the gain close to being dimed, you can peel off the volume and get a pretty nice kind of shimmery clean tone. I have a McCarty, and I love putting it in single coil setting, then peeling off some volume. I can get some really awesome tones that remind me of The Who.

All around, a TRULY AMAZING amp. I have not been in a position to have multiple amps in quite some time. Usually I will keep an amp around and then sell/trade it because I want to try amps out that I have never tried. Before this I had a CCV that I had to sell for bills but I kept that for around a year. Before these two amps, I was flipping them pretty quick, but then got lucky with the CCV and Rockmonster. I have a 4 x 12 with the Celestion 70th anniv. models and both sound awesome through it. I have really been wanting to try the BE100 out, but I will keep this for a while longer. The BE100 can wait for a while, I have been having too much fun with this. The touch sensitivity for leads is great and the leads literally just leap off of the fret board!!

Who has had the pleasure of trying the Rockmonster?? Anyone? The Gower I have was built by Dan, for Dan! This was his personal amp for a couple years!! Maybe he gave himself a little extra Gower magic? Anyone in the San Fran Bay Area who wants to check this bad machine out, let me know!! We could meet up, you will be pretty amazed by this amp!!

I still have not recorded clips, so I will post a link to Dan playing the amp when it was his. This is just a small slice of what the amp can do. I know I have posted a few threads about how cool this amp is over the past 6 months ago, but I have rarely come across an amp that sounds and feels so good to play!!

Just had to drop a few lines, I have ordered the Rockmonster as well. When it's done i'll be sure to post pics, and give a full review. Dan sourced me out a 1979 JMP from the UK, and is in the middle of doing the mod for it as we speak. While he's doing the mod, i'm contemplating the extra mods he offers. He offers so many extra, that you will have a versatile beast on your hands. I am truly stoked to get it. And i must say that it is a absolute pleasure dealing with Dan. His communication, knowledge, and customer service is second to none. He not only listens to you, but takes the time to question and consult, and in short, he wants you to have the perfect setup for you. I advise anyone that is considering a modded amp, or just needs service to take the time to look up Gower Amplification.

I would have the options figured out before he starts the mod, I would imagine that would be useful information before you start drilling holes, and figuring out component placement...

If you want the ultimate in modern metal tones check this video out. The mod done here is the Sylosis mod and it is just about the heaviest I have ever heard an older or a reissue sound.

I am thinking about sending him my '80's JCM800 2203 and have him do either that mod or the Rockmonster mod. Either that or have him mod a JVM410H for more flexibility.

Ya, that Sylosis mod is Great! However, personally i liked the Sylosis mod he did on Josh's JMP rather than the jcm800. Little different voicing (For leads) if I remember correctly. But yes, for modern tones, that mod is just sick!. I need a little versatility, hence the Rockmonster Mod. 5th gain stage, and a little eq, i'll be able to dial in modern tones. Dan has an option for a footswitchable gain stage, so i can drop back to a 4th gain stage, get classic tones, and even so, roll back the volume on that 4th stage, and cleans up nicely. Unless i want to add a full clean channel which Dan does offer.

The mod in his JMP is like a variation of the Killer Kali++ Mod. It definitely cleans up great using the guitar's volume control, so long as the pickups you're using aren't super high output. Even better if you have either a coil-split setting/switch or even a split humbucker combined with a middle pickup (like positions 2 and 4 on a Strat or Superstrat).
The modded JCM800 also cleans up pretty well, i would say the JMP is a bit more versatile though"

Wow, lots of knobs on that JCM800. You sure got every option and I am sure it sounds killer. I just think the look of the amp is a little compromised since it wasn't designed to have that many knobs.

Well it is all about the sound not the look of the amp and this amp pretty much does it all!!

You could always do what Dan did to Josh's amps, with any, or most modding done on the back. (provided theres room). Maybe a push/pull knob or two on front. That would at least keep the front looking stock. Thats what I'm having Dan do as well.
