I asked Wade what he would recommend for my very bright sounding Godin guitar and he suggested a Solution or a Dragon Suit.
I went with the Dragon Suit since it's supposed to have more mids than the Solution.

So does anybody have experience with the Dragon Suits?
A penny for your thoughts?
:)

I wanted to try one but was unable to get in contact with Wade. Im not sure why its so difficult to order from him , lol

Don't know much about the Dragon Suit but I can tell you I am very happy with his pickups thanks to you. I really like the 2nd Degree Black belts. Wade is a good dude and is probably just busy making pickups and doesn't have a lot of time to answer emails.

Yeah I love Wade's work. Guy's a genius with pickups.
Sometimes he gets back to me with a fast reply, and other times he might take a couple days. But he always does reply eventually.
And I wish the website was updated with current info.
But I'm happy to live with his quirks because in my experience there's nothing else out there like his pickups.

Seems I'll just have to wait and see for myself about the Dragon Suit.
I'll report back as soon as I have it installed.
And I'll post some clips also.

The 2nd Degrees are indeed awesome!

Me.

I've been trying to keep up with the buzz surrounding his new pickup releases, lurking MCP's facebook page and such, when i decided to do a google search. Consequently the most ironic and convenient thing occurred - i found out (through google) we had a Zaukus Supernal at the store i work for. Sure enough, in the description it talks about the "custom motor city pickups".... which is indeed the Dragon Suit.

I took it into one of our amp rooms and tried it out....

I'm not really sure what kind of revisions have occurred since the Zaukus version, but.... i was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong.... the pickups themselves were really good, the string separation was stellar under high-gain chording, showing the hallmarks of a true handwound boutique pickup. I think it's more my expectations were different... having the impression this would be a very midrange heavy pickup.... it's not. They seemed more like a T-top derivative; very low output, crunchy and bright. Not bad/shrill bright, just not very thick in the mids, which made the brightness more apparent.

I'd be very curious to hear your input after this 'officially released' version arrives.... could be a very different pickup now, who knows.

Interesting. Wade describes the Dragon Suit as a hot pickup (around 10k) with a heavy midrange. Never heard it myself.

You sure that was a Dragon Suit bridge in that guitar?
Your description seems like a perfect fit for a T Wreck bridge - 7.8k wind and based on the Gibson T Tops bridge. Wade recommended it for me to brighten up my dark sounding Burny LP.
The Dragon Suit bridge on the other hand is supposed to add beef to guitars that are too bright and in need of some weight in the lows & mids. Wade recommended one for my all maple Godin Strat.
And the Dragon Suit bridge is supposedly as hot sounding a wind as a HotHead bridge (which from experience sounds plenty hot).

Doesn't add up from what info I have.
I'll know for sure in another couple weeks when my T Wreck and Dragon Suit arrive.

I would think the Hot Head would really work in a dark guitar. I thought that pickup was too dark for my Charvels.

I had the HH in my Luxxtone and it was dark.. great pickup though!!! The Angel Dust is my favorite out of all of his pickups!!! An underwound Afwayu is another great option for a bright guitar.

Was the Angel Dust at all similar to an underwound afwayu?

Well somewhat similar except is was a little darker with a little more bass and lacked the upper mids and the strident top end that the Angel Dust has and of course it has a little bit more output. The Angel Dust is pure magic IMO!!!

Yeah, I remember being at Jerry's shop when your guitar, metalmaniac93, was laying on the workbench. He was just finishing it up. He told me those were some Hot Heads in there. It's kinda simpatico because I was there to replace my HH with an Angel Dust in my Luxx. I remember telling him I doubt those will be in there long.

Yep!!! The AD kicks ass!! I also had a set of Garuda's in there after the HH and then went with the AD set.. Perfect!! Too bad Wade discontinued the AD and the Garuda!! I have ADs in a majority of my guitars with an underwound one in my MIJ SOCAL...

No idea. This is the info i'm going off of regarding Zaukus guitars -

From Motor City thread http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=114960 -

"** Zaukusguitars.com have launched and apparently Brad Whitford of Aerosmith has been flying all over the place with it. They feature custom designed "Dragon Suit" pickups exclusively for the Zaukus guitar line. Joe P has one coming as well. There are a few videos on youtube from Destroy all guitars that feature the Zaukus " Supernal"."
