charvelstrat81, not sure why your thread was deleted but I thought it was intriguing.

Post subject: Who here has several guitars and amps but is not in a band

I see a lot of guys here and on other forums with some extremely great but expensive gear.
Top dollar amps, guitars by suhr, gibson historics, etc and wanted to see
how many do not play in a band and how did you get the $$$ for such great gear?
Do you use all of the gear you own on a daily basis?
My gear collection is nothing compared to most,
a few USA charvels
a jackson soloist
a les paul
a EVH 5153 50 watter, mesa MK V25 and a JVM1H which i have to get rid of for $$$ reasons.

I have Diezel, Bogner, Fryette, Boogie, Two Rock, Dumble, Orange, Matchless, Carr, Fender, Marshall, /13, Dr Z, Badcat and Cornhole and I play exclusively in Madison Square Bedroom.

It doesn't matter. My neighbors think I'm a rock and roll god. All my interwebz fiends thing my ears are golden.

I do a video every 3 years and that's really all that's necessary.

I got the money from my neighborz.

how many do not play in a band
I haven't been in a band in about three years and I haven't played a gig in about two and a half.

how did you get the $$$ for such great gear?
I have a job. I'm also 37 so I've had a few years to put this collection together.

Do you use all of the gear you own on a daily basis?
I use one amp and one guitar on a near daily basis. The rest get used when I'm bored.

I've been in several bands, but the reality is that music is a hobby for me - I have far too many guitars to even attempt to justify, plus 3 amps and a rack. But that said, fucked if I need to justify it to anyone apart from my wife LOL

I used to gig but not any more if I want something ill make it happen usually flipping gear, saving and just really focusing on that amp, guitar etc..I have a small amount of gear 5 guitars ( 3 custom shop les Paul's,a melody maker and a New York made early ESP custom) I flipped through 30 amps and finally have settled on 2 rigs a Diezel Einstein and a Herbert and a huge pedal board ..quality over quantity for me since my audience is 2 cats and the old lady.

I'll bet that the majority are bedroom warriors...I'll also bet that the majority also afforded their gear simply by eating ramen noodles instead of fillet mignon

I have a few and do radio spots and TV commercial tracks for NBC, ABC and Fox. I keep pitching the harder stuff but all they want is fluff and bubble gum crap.

Guilty.

No band, I do play bass at church a few times a year. Otherwise there is the infrequent jam and home recording. I work 3rd shift on weekends so being in a band would be difficult. I don't have a large collection, but what I have nice.

I play guitar daily, so I have a few that have accumulated over time to keep things interesting. Other people watch TV, I'm more likely to pick up a guitar.

I am down to my 1974 Friedman Marshall and a JVM410 for heads and three 4x12's, two 2x12's, and one 1x12 cab. Guitarwise I have two 1988 Kramer Sambora's, a Charvel model 6, model 3a, and a model 2.

I was in a band through the end of January. I'm still waiting to recover enough from my surgery before I get into another band. I miss gigging, it's not about the $$$, it is a blast when you are in a good band with good people.

A few years ago I had 4 Martins, 3 Taylors, a Triple Rect, Bugera, JMP, Classic 50. Played at all the bars at Ohio State University in the early 70's. Got married, had kids...thought I was to adult for guitars and spent the next 25 years in a career never touching a guitar. Now at 60 I'm starting up again and having a blast.

how many do not play in a band

I play in a jam band with friends that are hobbyists like me....we get together maybe twice a month and have a few shots and beers and jam some sludge, cause everyone can groove at that pace and no one's ego gets hurt. Couple times a summer we'll play a couple bars and some house parties but nothing elaborate.

how did you get the $$$ for such great gear?

I own my own company and charge way too much for what I do, but people pay it and I'll not correct them, nor check myself. :D

I have a couple Peavey amps and an Axe II, and pretty much one of every basic model guitar...Custom LP, Ibanez baritone, Wolfgang, Strat, ESP Eclipse, LTD Star, Dean ML with a Floyd, KM7 and JL7...just stuff I'm not really concerned if it gets mildly abused since most of it is easily replaceable except for my GT Les Paul. Nothing compared to most guys here.

Been thinking hard about a Suhr lately to scratch that itch, but don't know if I'm really ready to commit to that price yet, especially since I don't know how much I'd use it. Even at this point $2k + is a decent amount of $ for me to spend on something I won't use, and even though I know they're great I have a monster tech that can make anything play fantastically...whether I paid $3k or $200 for it.

Do you use all of the gear you own on a daily basis?

Fuck no....I have stuff I haven't touched in 6 months; the AFX and whatever guitar I'm favoring at the moment are what gets used the most, and sometimes more than one guitar a day but that's about it. I haven't fired up the Peaveys since just after Christmas...

This all happened after I quit drugs....until then I had a 6505 and one guitar. Gotta spend $ on something, and the influx of gear happened right around the time I discovered gear forums. Funny how that works...

well at least i no longer feel like i own too much gear for my purposes!
and also not in a band and dont plan on being in one.
too much drama and BS involved.
:D

I'm down to 6-8 gigs a year, including one outdoor festival. Good band, at least for the lame clubs here. Been playing out since the late 80s, just clubs though. Covers mostly. Have a Jubilee combo, Hamer USA Diablo, Charvel USA and my uncles old 78 LP that I never gig with...if it got stolen I'd fn kill the dude. Family thing. Looking for a backup amp, wishing I would have kept my D60...dammit! Lots of great players here, I'm an average pentatonic(boring I know) lead player at best. Glad to be here though!
I work in the medical field, not a doc though. Get compensated decently, jobs are usually easy to find/negotiate. But I can't justify having a ton of gear, got 2 kids recently out of HS so you probably know college ain't cheap. Personally I live vicariously through some of you that collect great gear....I tend to find cheaper used guitars do the job for me, its the amp I put most value in...my band mates are like me..in their 40s with kids and a career. Gig just for fun..try to run through scales/riffs everyday to keep my chops up.

Very cool ! I tell people who ask me "aren't you too old to still play in a band?" I'm 48....and yes probably. But as long as you enjoy it, who cares? Never stop doing the things you enjoy....

I am in between cover bands.

I work in IT field, but also have a wife and two children.

I do not play all my guitars.

how many do not play in a band
I have played in many bands over the years. I'm in one now.

Like CCR sings, "Workin' for the man, every night and day."

Do you use all of the gear you own on a daily basis?
Yes.

It wasn't always that way. For many years I collected gear. 5 years ago I had 20 tube amps and 25 guitars. I loved having all that gear, but I really got caught up in that trap of always chasing new gear. No more. I sold off almost everything, and am quite happy with 2 electrics, 1 acoustic, 1 tube amp, and my Kemper.

I've never been in a band.
I suck at guitar.
I had some nice gear.
However, I quit playing for about a year. Sold all of my gear. I have no gear at all but currently thinking about buying a guitar and an amp again.
I have nothing...............I can take it or leave it honestly.
Guitar is something I occasionally like to do but it doesn't define me as a person.

wow so good to see there are other guys on here in their 40s just jamming and playing a handful of gigs a year, I have a 5153 mini and an orange 2x12 and an orange 1x12 with tons of pedals and a taylor 114e and 3 MM guitars and a PRS mira s2, thinking of selling one of the MM because Im really leaning towards the PRS as of late but I really dig all my stuff and don't feel the need for a friedman or a splawn or an xtc or whatever, maybe my next amp will be some kind of fender combo, as for paying for my shiz I work full time for a bank after giving up the music life 8 or 9 years ago, now I like jamming more than I did when I was 25 playing in bands all over NYC...
