Who makes an amp that sounds like a '68 -'69 unmodded lay down transformer Plexi? The real deal. I played a '68 one with a variac and a Scumback cab the other day. YIKES! I'm not sure what the deal is with getting an original, was wondering if any of these boutique guys make a real authentic one, no master etc...? Not sure if similar parts are available to really recreate it. Or does anyone know of a monster Plexi for sale?
I would agree but you have to find it AND have the knowledge to know you are getting a good one which I would admit I would have to recruit some help from someone like you. Those suckers go for some big coin now so you better know your early superleads.
Is it magic then? Somebody like metro painstakingly re-creates the layout, lead dress, uses identical parts, etc. and it can't sound like the Marshall? Makes no sense to me. It is basically the identical amp, what could be missing?

Truth is, marshall amps varied so much during those years, every single one of them sounded different. Marshall would go to military surplus stores, buy a run of components, and when those were exhausted they'd go get another run which may or may not have been the same. You can't really point to a particular circuit and say "Yes, this is THE canonical Marshall Plexi circuit" because of all the variance.
