Who makes an amp that sounds like a '68 -'69 Plexi?

+1 on the cantus. But it has a master and built in boost. Supposed to be based off a 68 plexi. Love mine.

Stay Gold, Pony Boy.

People can get close... like Metro, but honestly, NOTHING can beat the real thing. ;)

I would agree but you have to find it AND have the knowledge to know you are getting a good one which I would admit I would have to recruit some help from someone like you. Those suckers go for some big coin now so you better know your early superleads.

I think Marshall makes something that's supposed to be pretty close.

Hey James contact Alan Philips from Carol Ann Amplifiers, he probably would do a custom build. He has owned/worked on tons of these and the custom ones he made sounded incredible. I believe a 68 was his main gigging amp for years until he sold it to start his amp biz.

First of all , no 2 original Plexis sound exactly alike and second of all George has them pretty much nailed down tight. Not just close. The Metroamp kits are close..... The Metropolous replicas are just about perfect .

Dave is always the man :rawk: :rawk:

Here's a Germino turned up with a lot of hair. You can't hear the guy talk so skip to the middle of the clip. I think he's on the forum selling it and he's in SoCal.

How about Blankenship, Rockstah amps (this is the VH thang and really good), Bray also sound really good.

What Bray does is very different, and is more of a modded sound. He doesn't cascade the channels, but hey're jumped and it's modded so that there's a lot more gain happening ealier in the gain stage. It's an articulate sound and cleans up well when you roll back the volume, but it's a bit dark for my taste with a sharper edge on the hig-end. It does EVH alright, but I don't think the mod was made with that sound in mind.

Dave and Mark Abrahamian do EVH about as well as anybody. I have a Plexi clone set up by Dave and Mark's Mod5. They're both excellent amps in their own right.

Yeah I know. I'm wondering what the Germino Superlead Headroom 100 will sound like with a Faustine attenuator behind it and Scumback back with it?
