I'm new to Cubase and from what little I've learned so far I think I'm really gonna dig it. I ran into a weird issue today and was wondering if someone can help me out. I'm pretty sure it's pilot error..... I have EZDrummer loaded up and working fine as long as I playback from the beginning of the midi region. If I start anywhere else I get a loud Kick/Snare/Cymbal hit...even when there is no midi data at that point. The following video shows what I'm talking about. Sorry about the poor quality. Thanks for any help.

I, too, am new to Cubase (Pro 8) after years of PT and am very pleased with it; albeit it does have a different mentality to it: hence being made by a completely different company, eh?

I'm not exactly sure what is going on with your specific scenario, however, I have noticed (using SD2) that when I drag a file into an instrument region, it also creates a MIDI track. If you're not showing the MIDI tracks and have moved the dragged in MIDI file around on the instrument track, maybe the MIDI track(s) have it in the initial drag/drop location, whereby playing back - without being visible at the time - when you're moving along the timeline. Complete guess. I've not figured this out completely, yet, either.

Feel free to bounce ideas off me and I'll help as much as I can as I, too, learn the DAW.

I'm going to mess around with it in a little bit and see what's up. Like you said there's probably some hidden midi data that I have to take care of. I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the reply.

Could it be something where EZD is configured to play whenever the overall transport is playing? You could check by deleting the MIDI clip in the track and playing from that same spot.

I recently switched to Cubase after bouncing around many DAWs. I'm really enjoying it. I recommend the book Power Tools for Cubase 7. It's completely applicable to Cubase 8 and gets deep into the basics as well as into things like pitch correction, chord controls, and beat detection. Great book!

Really happy with this DAW, and that's a first of all I've tried.

I figured it out. When using the drum editor you can't see when you accidently increase the length of the midi data because it uses diamonds instead of resizable rectangles. I was trying to copy a selection from one bar to another and wasn't sure how to do it. The double horizontal arrow that appears is for note length and not for dragging data. Like I said....pilot error. :D Thanks for the replies.
