Who would you have mod your Marshall?

Bob is right imo, you have to find out exactly what you are looking for first and then weigh in with who is out there. The best can deliver something you just do not dig if you did not communicate what you are looking for.

For me the feel is number one on the list of what I am looking for, great tone while fighting the amp the whole time would be useless. Start with a tone you can send to the builder and discuss other varibles like feel and voicing.

Trying different boost pedals could make it as well like others said, some add lows, others highs, some better feel, etc.

Or just slap a good OD pedal on it. Done... LOL! :D

That's what I've done with my JMP... no complaints here.

It's worked for SOOOOO many people we grew up listening to. Why mess with perfection? LOL! :D

+1 - I've finally figured out that if I had an amp modded, it would want it to sound like my amps with a boost - and depending on the boost, I can get different shades of the tone I like - and boosts are cheap :)

edit - just edited my ludicrous mis-statement.

That's not true at all. While you personally may dial it in to be the same as your boosted amps, to say a modded amp will sound like a boosted one is completely false.

I'd just probably find a guy around town, who seems like he knows what he's doing and throw my complete trust that it'd be the best ever.

may bad, what I meant to say was that if I had an amp modded, I would want it to sound like what my amp sounds boosted - sorry!

I thought Doug's were Cameron modded....?

One of Doug's Marshalls IS a Cameron. The other was modded by John Suhr. He talks about it on the Whitesnake 2005 DVD. Infact, he mentions the Suhr mod, but not the Cameron. Not sure why. At any rate....

On Doug's site this topic has come up several times, I believe last time I read one that the Suhr was for rythm tones and the Cameron for leads. Plus he has/had a Standel in the rig, which I believe Cameron worked for awhile which could be why Doug has it. John and Mark have both replied to the thread on the site.
When I picked up mine, Mark said his was on the "Killing the Dragon" CD. With Doug's new rig he has a Vintage Modern in there so who knows how often it gets used though.

Spot on. I have played mods that are just plain horrible to play, they may sound cool but zero fun.

Thats the exact thing i have been working on with my amp mods.. Getting the feel spot on and making it feel really fun to play!

With the Super Jose mod i did recently, i managed to get the feel somewhere between a Marshall and a Boogie Mark Series. The tone is pure rodded Marshall through and through, but i wanted it to feel fun to play thru, and so that you don't have to fight it!
... Unless you want it to feel more tighter and articulate.. in which case i can make the feel switchable! :)

Yeah, has gotten to the point that there are local guys that you can trust to get the job done for you. Lots of good choices.

If you liked your RM4 rig you will love a Mod50 (yes I am a broken record :) )

VX module and the EG3/4 or SL+ and you will be in heaven. The week your playing in Addison is the 1 week I don't have to be there otherwise I would bring my rig for you to try.

Lol Ned, I've been waving Bogners in front of his face too. :) JVM Marshalls just don't do much for me, but a lot of people really like em!

your clips with that JMP make me wet...wait did i say that out loud, ahhh fuck.

I'm having mine modded by local tech who is willing to let me take the amp home for a couple of days in between each mod or adjustment and see if i like it, if not i bring it back and he changes it. he's also cheaper than most, he said IF i wanted a tube FX loop that he'd charge me $90.00 to install it. Now if it turns out he can't do what i'm looking for then, i'll call Mike Fortin and ship it to him.

or Caswell or Bray or Golub

That's cool, at the end of the day if he knows the sweetspots and lets you take it home and you're happy, great! Some of these well known modders really have the magic ear, which is why they are known. Nothing to say that someone out there that isn't know has the touch as well. Let us know...especially if it's good...and cheap!
